San Emigdio Mountains
The San Emigdio Mountains are a part of the Transverse Ranges in Southern California, extending from Interstate 5 at Lebec and Gorman on the east to Highway 33–166 on the west. They link the Tehachapis and Temblor Range and form the southern wall of the San Joaquin Valley. The range is named after Emygdius, an early Christian martyr. Geography The range is within Kern County. The highest point is San Emigdio Mountain at . As with most of the Transverse Ranges, the mountains generally lie in an east-west direction. Mount Pinos
Mount Pinos () (Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Mission Indians, Samala: '''Iwɨhɨnmu'') is a mountain located in the Los Padres National Forest on the boundary between Ventura County, California, Ventura and Kern County, California, Kern counties in California. The summit, at , is the highest point in Ventura County. The mountain is the highest point of the Transverse Ranges west of Tejon Pass, as well as the southernmost point of the Salinian Block. Etymology Mount Pinos was named after its pine timber, "pinos" meaning "pine" in Spanish. To the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Mission Indians, Chumash people, Mount Pinos is called Iwihinmu. In the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Mission Indians, Samala language it means "a place of mystery", referring to its enigmatic place at the center of Chumash cosmology and spirituality.
