The Aztecs compete in NCAA Division I as a member of the Mountain West Conference (MW). The team plays its home games at Tony Gwynn Stadium. Mountain West Conference
The Mountain West Conference (MW) is a collegiate athletic conference in the Western United States, participating in NCAA Division I. Its football teams compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). The MW officially began operations on January 4, 1999. Geographically, the MW covers a broad expanse of the Western United States, with member schools located in California, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming and Hawaii. Oral Roberts Golden Eagles Baseball
The Oral Roberts Golden Eagles baseball team is the intercollegiate baseball team of Oral Roberts University. It plays in the NCAA Division I Summit League. The team won the Mid-Con and Summit League regular season and tournament titles for 15 years straight between 1998 and 2012. Upon returning to the Summit League, the team repeated the feat in 2015 and 2016. In 2006, they advanced to the NCAA Super Regional. The Pepperdine Waves baseball team represents Pepperdine University in the sport of baseball. NCAA Division I Baseball Championship
The NCAA Division I Baseball Championship is held each year from May through June and features 64 college baseball teams in the United States, culminating in the eight-team College World Series, Men's College World Series (MCWS) at Charles Schwab Field Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska. The tournament is unique in that it features four tiers of competition, alternating between double-elimination brackets and best-of-three series. Shaun Cole (born February 4, 1979) is an American college baseball coach and former pitcher who was the head coach of the San Diego State Aztecs baseball team at San Diego State University (SDSU). He played college baseball at Pierce College and William Penn before beginning his coaching career as an assistant at Edmonds Community College. Early life and education Cole was born on February 4, 1979. A native of Olympia, Washington, he excelled as a left-handed pitcher at Pierce College before earning a scholarship to attend William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa, where he played for the nationally ranked Statesmen from 2004 to 2006. Cole earned a bachelor's degree in education with a concentration in kinesiology from William Penn in 2004, followed by a Master of Education in intercollegiate athletic leadership from the University of Washington in 2009. Mark Eastman Martinez (born December 18, 1961) is an American college baseball coach and former shortstop. He is the former head baseball coach at San Diego State University. Martinez played college baseball at Colorado Mesa University, Mesa State College from 1982 to 1984. Martinez was previously assistant coach under Tony Gwynn at San Diego State from 2006 to 2014. Nearly two months after Gwynn's death, San Diego State promoted Martinez to head coach on August 20, 2014. On July 13, 2023, Martinez announced his retirement from coaching. James Clyde Dietz (July 31, 1938 – March 27, 2022) was an American college baseball coach and player. He served as the head baseball coach at San Diego State University from 1972 to 2002, compiling a record of 1,230–751–18. After coaching the freshman basketball team and the junior varsity baseball team at the University of Oregon, Dietz was appointed as the head basketball coach at Lewis–Clark Normal School—now Lewis–Clark State College—in May 1971, but turned down that offer a week later to take the head baseball coaching position at San Diego State.
