Abraham Salaman
Abraham Walley Mahomed Salaman (also spelt Mohamed; 1881-1886 – 8 February 1941) was a notable New Zealand merchant, dyer, herbalist and charlatan. He was born in Amritsar, to Muslim parents, in Punjab (British India), Punjab, British India in the 1880s. In 1930 he was convicted of manslaughter after requiring that a diabetic patient of his be taken off insulin and subsequently died in a diabetic coma. Salaman died in 1941 and is buried at Te Henui Cemetery in New Plymouth, where his tomb is one of the outstanding architectural features. Prior to his death, in 1940, Salaman designed his tomb in Islamic style and obtained special permission for it to occupy ten plots in Te Henui Cemetery, Te Henui cemetery. The tomb cost £2,500 and was topped with a brass star and crescent moon, featuring the words ‘Mohammed Islam Salaman Tomb’ above the door. References External links

Raphael Arthur Salaman (24 April 1906 – 31 December 1993) was an English engineer, collector, and writer. His work recorded the hand tools used in Britain during the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries. Biography Family and education R. A. Salaman, also known as Raph, was born in Barley, Hertfordshire into a well-established Anglo-Jewish family. His father was Dr Redcliffe N. Salaman, the botanist who wrote ''The History and Social Influence of the Potato. ''His mother Nina (''née'' Davis) was a writer, poet and Hebrew scholar who tried to teach him Hebrew, which he found hard unlike his elder brothers. However, being Jewish was still important to Salaman and he used to tell his children about it and read the Bible. The Salaman family were Ashkenazi Jews, who, according to his father, migrated to Britain from either Holland or the Rhineland in the early 18th century. Masjed Soleyman () is a city in the Central District of Masjed Soleyman County, Khuzestan province, Iran, serving as capital of both the county and the district. Lady Rachel Simon (; 1 August 1823 – 7 July 1899) was an English Jewish author. Biography Lady Rachel Simon was born in 1823, the fifth daughter of Alice () and Simeon Kensington Salaman. Her father was clothing supplier to the British Army and warden of the Western Synagogue, and she was the sister of Annette, Charles, and Julia, and Rose Emma Salaman. Lady Simon grew up amid the intellectual and refined surroundings of a home which was the rendezvous of many distinguished people. On 12 July 1843, she married barrister John Simon, who would later serve as Serjeant-at-Law and Liberal Member of Parliament. A month after their marriage, the young couple left England for Jamaica, and on arrival there took up their residence in Spanish Town.
