Rostock (district)
Rostock () is a Districts of Germany, district in the north of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. It is bounded by (from the west and clockwise) the district Nordwestmecklenburg, the Baltic Sea, the district-free city Rostock and the districts Vorpommern-Rügen, Mecklenburgische Seenplatte (district), Mecklenburgische Seenplatte and Ludwigslust-Parchim. The district seat is the town Güstrow. History Rostock District was established by merging the former districts of Bad Doberan (district), Bad Doberan and Güstrow (district), Güstrow as part of the local government reform of September 2011. The name of the district was decided by referendum on 4 September 2011. The project name for the district was ''Mittleres Mecklenburg''. Güstrow
Güstrow (; ) is a town in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in north-eastern Germany. It is capital of the Rostock (district), Rostock district; Rostock itself is a district-free city and regiopolis. It has a population of 28,999 (2020) and is the seventh largest town in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Since 2006 Güstrow has had the official suffix ''Barlachstadt''. The town is known for its Renaissance (architecture), renaissance Güstrow Palace, the Altstadt, old town and its brick gothic Güstrow Cathedral, cathedral with Ernst Barlach, Barlach's ''Floating Angel'' sculpture. Bad Doberan
Bad Doberan () is a town in the district of Rostock, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. It was the capital of the former district of Bad Doberan. In 2012, its population was 11,427. Geography Bad Doberan is situated just west of Rostock's city centre and is therefore part of one of the most developed regions in the north-eastern part of Germany. The town nestles between beech tree forests just 6 km from the Baltic Sea and is one of the earliest German settlements in Mecklenburg. Today the town is a very popular bathing resort, thanks to Heiligendamm, a district of Bad Doberan situated directly at the cliff line of the Baltic. Historically, Doberan used to be the summer residence for the Mecklenburg Dukes who resided in Schwerin, and for their entourage. Börgerende-Rethwisch
Börgerende-Rethwisch is a municipality in the Rostock district, in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. Geography The municipality runs from the Baltic Sea coast for almost 5 km southeast into the interior. Within its territory is the Conventer See, an old bay whose outlet to the Baltic has silted up turning it into a lake. The lake is a nature reserve which is known for its variety of waders and water fowl. To the west of Börgerende is Germany's oldest seaside resort, Heiligendamm. As well as Börgerende and Rethwisch, the villages of Bahrenhorst and Neu Rethwisch are also part of the municipality. History The village of Rethwisch was first documented in 1297. Bartenshagen-Parkentin
Bartenshagen-Parkentin is a municipality in the Rostock district, in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. Geography The municipality comprises the villages of Bartenshagen, Parkentin, Huetten, Neuhof and Bollbruecke. Bartenshagen-Parkentin lies between Bad Doberan and the Hanseatic city of Rostock. The municipality has two parts: Bartenshagen lies on the slightly raised area of basal moraine of Haegerort approximately 7 km from the Baltic See. Parkentin lies approximately 3 km south from the centre of Bartenshagen. The municipality is characterised by farmland, predominantly used for arable farming. Graal-Müritz
Graal-Müritz is a ''Seeheilbad'' (seaside health resort) in the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It is located in the Rostock district, near Rostock, Ribnitz-Damgarten and Stralsund. Graal-Müritz is among the most popular German destinations for tourism and health cures alike. It borders both the Baltic Sea and a large forest called Rostock Heath. The town offers many hotels, restaurants, a beach, a public Rhododendron Park and a well-being and fitness centre. There is an hourly train service to Rostock. This journey takes 30 minutes.
