The Rolling River First Nation () is an Ojibwe First Nations community in Manitoba, located south of Riding Mountain National Park. About half of the members are resident on its reserves, which are located south and east of Erickson, Manitoba. Treaty 4
Treaty 4 is a treaty established between Queen Victoria and the Cree and Saulteaux First Nation band governments. The area covered by Treaty 4 represents most of current day southern Saskatchewan, plus small portions of what are today western Manitoba and southeastern Alberta. This treaty is also called the Qu'Appelle Treaty, as its first signings were conducted at Fort Qu'Appelle, North-West Territories, on 15 September 1874. Additional signings or adhesions continued until September 1877. This treaty is the only indigenous treaty in Canada that has a corresponding indigenous interpretation (a pictograph made at the time by Chief Paskwa). Erickson is an unincorporated urban community in the Municipality of Clanwilliam – Erickson within the Canadian province of Manitoba; it held town status prior to 1 January 2015. It is located on Highway 10 on 32-17-18W in south central Manitoba. The main industry of Erickson is agriculture. History The community was originally established as a Canadian National railway point in 1905. When a post office was opened in 1908 it was known as Avesta. It was named after a town in south-central Sweden. Shortly after, the post office was moved near the railway station site, Erickson Station. The station had been named after the Postmaster, E. Treaty Four Reserve Grounds 77
The Treaty Four Reserve Grounds 77 are an Indian reserve in Saskatchewan, Canada, shared by 33 band governments from Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The Reserve Grounds are surrounded by the town of Fort Qu'Appelle. In the 2016 Canadian Census, they recorded a population of 15 living in 6 of their 8 total private dwellings. All bands are signatories to Treaty 4. This Reserve may belong to Assiniboine Chief Long Lodge #77, who was a treaty signatory chief to Treaty 4 in 1877 at Cypress Hills. Further this land was designated to be shared by all Treaty 4 bands in 1996 to commemorate the signing of the Treaty Land Entitlement agreements between First Nation and the Provincial and Federal Governments. Riding Mountain National Park
Riding Mountain National Park is a national park in Manitoba, Canada. The park is located within Treaty 2 Territory and sits atop the Manitoba Escarpment. Consisting of a protected area of , the forested parkland stands in sharp contrast to the surrounding prairie farmland. It was designated a national park because it protects three different ecosystems that converge in the area; grasslands, upland boreal and eastern deciduous forests. The Rural Municipality of Harrison is a former rural municipality (RM) in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was originally incorporated as a rural municipality on December 22, 1883. It ceased on January 1, 2015 as a result of its provincially mandated amalgamation with the RM of Park to form the Municipality of Harrison Park. The RM was located north of Brandon on the Yellowhead Highway with its offices at Newdale, Manitoba. The main reserve of the Rolling River First Nation lied within the east-central portion of the RM. Rural Municipality Of Clanwilliam
The Rural Municipality of Clanwilliam is a former rural municipality (RM) in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was originally incorporated as a rural municipality on December 22, 1883. It ceased on January 1, 2015 as a result of its provincially mandated amalgamation with the Town of Erickson to form the Municipality of Clanwilliam – Erickson. The RM was located in an area of mixed farming positioned on the southeast side of Riding Mountain National Park. The southern part of the RM was flatter farmland while the northern part was more rugged with many hills, forests and lakes. This area is a nesting area for various species of ducks and also a major flyway for geese. The communities of Hilltop and Scandinavia were formed by Swedish settlers in the late 19th century.
