Rockford Lightning
The Rockford Lightning was a basketball team that played in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). They were based in Rockford, Illinois. History The Lightning were the oldest team in the CBA, originally existing as the Lancaster Red Roses from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. That team changed their name to the Lancaster Lightning, then the franchise moved to Baltimore for a year before relocating in Rockford. Their home arena was the MetroCentre. They were the runners-up in the 2001-02 and 2004-05 CBA seasons, losing a winner-take-all championship game to the Dakota Wizards 116–109 in 2002, and a best-of-5 series to the Sioux Falls Skyforce 3–1 in 2005. On January 20, 2006, the team's owner announced that the Lightning would cease operations after the season unless other investors purchased the team and continued its operations. International Basketball League (1999–2001)
The International Basketball League (IBL) was a short-lived professional men's basketball league in the United States. The IBL was headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland. The league started in 1999 and ended in 2001. History The International Basketball League was founded in early 1999 and made plans to begin play in fall of that year. The first season did not quite meet expectations with attendance, but the league was still largely functional, with the Saint Louis Swarm winning the first championship. The second season was significantly rougher, with the league losing the Baltimore and San Diego franchises and merging with teams from the Continental Basketball Association after that league folded early in 2000. Gerald Madkins
Gerald Madkins Jr. (born April 18, 1969) is an American professional basketball executive who is a former assistant general manager for the New York Knicks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is a former professional basketball player. Born in Merced, California, Madkins attended University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers of the NBA and played with them from 1993 to 1994, and was signed by the Miami Heat on January 21, 1998. Madkins played briefly with the Golden State Warriors in 1998. He also played in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) for the Grand Rapids Hoops and Rockford Lightning. He was named CBA Rookie of the Year with the Hoops in 1993 and selected to the All-CBA First Team with the Lightning in 1998. He also played overseas in Spain and France.
