''RoboCop'' is an American cyberpunk action fiction, action media franchise featuring the futuristic adventures of RoboCop (character), Alex Murphy, a Detroit, Detroit, Michigan police officer, who is brutally murdered in the line of duty and resurrected into a powerful cyborg, brand-named RoboCop (character), RoboCop, at the behest of a powerful mega-corporation, Omni Consumer Products. Thus equipped, Murphy battles both violent crime in a severely decayed city and the blatantly corrupt machinations within OCP. The franchise began in 1987 with the film ''RoboCop''. ''RoboCop 2'' followed in 1990, and ''RoboCop 3'' in 1993. There have also been various Television program#Seasons/series, television series, RoboCop (franchise)#Video games, video game and comic book tie-ins. Edward Neumeier
Edward Neumeier (born August 24, 1957) is an American screenwriter best known for his work on the science fiction movies ''RoboCop'' and ''Starship Troopers (film), Starship Troopers''. He wrote the latter's sequels ''Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation'', ''Starship Troopers 3: Marauder'' (which he also directed) and ''Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars''. Early life Edward Vann Neumeier was born to Gloria and Edward James Neumeier. Neumeier graduated at Sir Francis Drake High School in San Anselmo, California. Neumeier studied journalism at the University of California at Santa Cruz, then attended the School of Motion Picture and Television at University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). ''RoboCop'' is a 1987 American science fiction action film directed by Paul Verhoeven and written by Edward Neumeier and Michael Miner. The film stars Peter Weller, Nancy Allen, Daniel O'Herlihy, Ronny Cox, Kurtwood Smith, and Miguel Ferrer. Set in a crime-ridden Detroit in the near future, ''RoboCop'' centers on police officer Alex Murphy (Weller) who is murdered by a gang of criminals and revived by the megacorporation Omni Consumer Products as the cyborg law enforcer RoboCop.
