Richthofen Family
The Richthofen family is an old and prominent German nobility, German noble family, whose members held the title of Freiherr, Baron in Bohemia and Count in the Kingdom of Prussia. The most famous member is the flying ace, air ace Manfred von Richthofen (1892–1918), also known as the "Red Baron", but a number of other members of his family are also notable for various reasons. Walter von Richthofen Baron Walter von Richthofen, an uncle of Manfred von Richthofen, immigrated to the United States in 1877 from Silesia. He founded the Denver, Colorado, Denver Chamber of Commerce and was co-founder of Montclair, Denver, at that time a village east of Denver but now incorporated into the city. Jasta 11
Royal Prussian Jagdstaffel 11 ("No 11 Fighter Squadron"; commonly abbreviated to Jasta 11) was founded on 28 September 1916 from elements of 4 Armee's ''Kampfeinsitzerkommandos'' (or KEKs) 1, 2 and 3 and mobilized on 11 October as part of the German Air Service's expansion program, forming permanent specialised fighter squadrons, or "'' Jastas''". It became the most successful fighter squadron in the ''Luftstreitkräfte''. Founding Jasta 11's first commander was First Lieutenant (''Oberleutnant'') Rudolf Lang, from its mobilization at Brayelles, until 14 January 1917. Bolko Von Richthofen
Bolko von Richthofen (September 13, 1899 – March 18, 1983) was a German archaeologist and a distant relative of the family of Manfred von Richthofen, the "Red Baron". He is sometimes confused with his distant cousin and namesake, Karl Bolko von Richthofen (1903–1971) – the youngest brother of the fighter ace. Richthofen was born in Mertschütz (Polish Mierczyce), Silesia, and fought in World War I. After the war ended, he participated as a Freikorps volunteer during the Silesian Uprisings. In the early post-war period he entered tertiary studies and quickly became an eminent scholar. A member of the NSDAP from 1933, he wrote several antisemitic and anti-Slavic works. During World War II he worked in the antisemitic Ahnenerbe organisation. Else Freiin von Richthofen (October 8, 1874 – December 22, 1973) was among the early female social scientists in Germany. Life and career Elisabeth Helene Amalie Sophie Freiin (Baroness) von Richthofen (also known as Else Jaffé) was born into the Heinersdorf line of the German Richthofen noble house at Château-Salins, France. Her parents were Friedrich Ernst Emil Ludwig Freiherr von Richthofen (1844–1915), an engineer in the Imperial German Army, and Anna Elise Lydia Marquier (1852–1930). Frieda Lawrence (August 11, 1879 – August 11, 1956) was a German author and wife of the British novelist D. H. Lawrence.
