Reprise Records
Reprise Records is an American record label founded in 1960 by Frank Sinatra. It is owned by Warner Music Group, and operates through Warner Records, one of its flagship labels. Artists currently signed to Reprise Records include Green Day, Enya, Michael Bublé, Eric Clapton, Stevie Nicks, Neil Young, Deftones, Mastodon (band), Mastodon, Lindsey Buckingham, Josh Groban, Disturbed (band), Disturbed, Idina Menzel, My Chemical Romance, Gerard Way, Dwight Yoakam, Never Shout Never, and Billy Strings. Company history Beginnings Reprise Records was formed in 1960 by Frank Sinatra in order to allow more artistic freedom for his own recordings, because of dissatisfaction with Capitol Records, and after trying to buy Norman Granz's Verve Records. Career Johnson was born in Bjärred, Sweden; both his parents were professional jazz musicians. During this period in his life he became familiar with late-night gigs and the constant travel associated with performances, joining his parents on the road regularly. After finally settling down in a Stockholm suburb, Johnson started his musical career as the singer in Planet Waves, a band which released only one album, ''Brutal Awakenings'' before splitting up due to internal conflicts. He then turned to a solo career, releasing the debut album, ''Cottonfish Tales''. Bash & Pop are an American alternative rock band formed in 1992 by Tommy Stinson in Minneapolis, Minnesota, following the breakup of the Replacements. It released one album before disbanding in 1994. Tommy Stinson reformed the band in 2016 with a new lineup and album. History With a name selected from a contest hosted by New York radio station WDRE, Bash & Pop was formed in 1992 by bassist Tommy Stinson, following the breakup of his previous group The Replacements. Stinson switched to guitar, with Steve Foley (from The Replacements) on drums, his brother Kevin Foley on bass, and Steve Brantseg on guitar. The album '' Friday Night Is Killing Me'' was recorded by the band with the assistance of Benmont Tench and Mike Campbell, Wire Train's Jeff Trott as well as other musicians Greg Leisz, Brian McCloud, Phil Jones and Tommy Steel. Barney Kessel
Barney Kessel (October 17, 1923 – May 6, 2004) was an American jazz guitarist. Known in particular for his knowledge of chords and inversions and chord-based melodies, he was a member of many prominent jazz groups as well as a "first call" guitarist for studio, film, and television recording sessions. Kessel was a member of the group of session musicians informally known as the Wrecking Crew. Early life Kessel was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma in 1923 to a Jewish family. Kessel's father was an immigrant from Hungary who owned and operated a shoe shop. A self-taught guitarist, his only formal musical study was three months of guitar lessons at the age of 12. Career He began his career as a teenager, touring with local swing bands. When he was 16, he started playing with the Oklahoma A&M band, Hal Price & the Varsitonians. Barenaked Ladies
Barenaked Ladies (BNL) is a Canadian Rock music, rock band which was formed in 1988 in the Toronto suburb of Scarborough, Ontario. The band developed a following in Canada, with their Barenaked Ladies (EP), self-titled 1991 cassette becoming the first independent release certified gold in Canada. They had mainstream success in Canada after signing to Reprise Records in 1992 with their debut album ''Gordon (album), Gordon'' (with singles including "If I Had $1000000" and "Brian Wilson (song), Brian Wilson"). Babes In Toyland (band)
Babes in Toyland was an American rock band from Minneapolis, Minnesota, formed in 1987. The band was founded by vocalist and guitarist Kat Bjelland, along with drummer Lori Barbero and bassist Michelle Leon, who quit the band in 1992 and was replaced by Maureen Herman. Babes in Toyland released three studio albums: '' Spanking Machine'' (1990), followed by the commercially successful ''Fontanelle'' (1992), and ''Nemesisters'' (1995), before becoming inactive in 1997 and eventually disbanding in 2001. After the band reunited in 2014, they began performing live together for the first time in over a decade. They completed an international tour throughout 2015, during which Herman was fired and replaced with Clara Salyer, before the band broke up again in 2017. Babble (band)
Babble was a British-New Zealand electronic dance music group active in the 1990s. It was formed by Tom Bailey (musician), Tom Bailey and Alannah Currie (formerly of the Thompson Twins), with Keith Fernley. History Babble was established in 1992 when Tom Bailey and Alannah Currie decided to drop the Thompson Twins name and begin recording new music under the name Babble. The decision to adopt a new name stemmed from the duo's aspirations of exploring different musical ideas and recording more experimental music. During the spring of 1992, the duo approached their long-time engineer Keith Fernley and he joined Babble as a full time member. The trio then spent five weeks in India to collect sound and sample recordings for future recording use. The B-52s
The B-52s, originally presented as the B-52's (with an errant grocer's apostrophe, apostrophe; used until 2008), are an American band formed in Athens, Georgia, in 1976. The original lineup consisted of Fred Schneider (vocals, percussion), Kate Pierson (vocals, keyboards, synth bass), Cindy Wilson (vocals, percussion), Ricky Wilson (guitarist), Ricky Wilson (guitar, vocals), and Keith Strickland (drums, guitar, keyboards, vocals). Ricky Wilson died of AIDS-related illness in 1985, and Strickland permanently switched from drums to lead guitar. The band has also added various members for albums and live performances. Atlantic Starr is an American R&B band based in White Plains, New York. They are best known for the hits " Always", " Secret Lovers", "Circles", " Silver Shadow", and "Masterpiece". History Atlantic Starr began in Greenburgh, New York, with trumpeter Duke Jones (who left the band prior to their first recordings), drummer Porter Carroll Jr., bassist Clifford Archer, percussionist and flautist Joseph Phillips, Sheldon Tucker (guitar; parted ways with the band before the first recordings), and three brothers: David Lewis (vocals and guitar), Wayne Lewis ( keyboards and vocals), and Jonathan Lewis ( keyboards and trombone). Ash (band)
Ash are a Northern Irish Rock music, rock band formed in Downpatrick, County Down in 1992 by vocalist and guitarist Tim Wheeler, bassist Mark Hamilton and drummer Rick McMurray. As a three-piece, they released mini-album ''Trailer (album), Trailer'' in 1994 and full-length album ''1977 (Ash album), 1977'' in 1996. This 1996 release was named by ''NME'' as one of the 500 greatest albums of all time. After the success of their full debut the band recruited Charlotte Hatherley as a guitarist and vocalist, releasing their second record ''Nu-Clear Sounds'' in 1998. Art Of Dying (band)
Art of Dying is a Canadian rock band from Vancouver, British Columbia, formed in 2004 by lead singer Jonny Hetherington and guitarist Greg Bradley. Soon after, the duo added Chris Witoski on rhythm guitar, bassist Matt Rhode, and drummer Flavio Cirillo. History In 2006, Art of Dying released their first album, ''Art of Dying'' on Thorny Bleeder Records. In February 2007, ''Classic Rock Magazine'' released the compilation ''Classic Rock: The Bands You Need to Hear in 2007'', and included the Art of Dying song "Completely".
