Regional Municipality Of Halton
The Regional Municipality of Halton, or Halton Region, is a regional municipality in Ontario, Canada, located in the Golden Horseshoe of Southern Ontario. It comprises the city of Burlington and the towns of Oakville, Milton, and Halton Hills. Policing in the Region is provided by the Halton Regional Police Service. The regional council's headquarters are located in Oakville. Burlington, Oakville, and Milton are largely urban and suburban, while Halton Hills is more rural. Halton is part of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), although it is the only regional municipality in the GTA that is not situated directly adjacent to Toronto’s city proper. The Province of Ontario has 51 first-level administrative divisions, which collectively cover the whole province. With two exceptions, their areas match the 49 census divisions Statistics Canada has for Ontario. The Province has four types of first-level division: single-tier municipalities, regional municipalities, counties, and districts. The first three are types of municipal government but districts are ''not''—they are defined geographic areas (some quite large) used in many contexts. Marianne Meed Ward ( Meed; born January 4, 1966) is an American-born Canadian politician and former journalist serving as the 29th and current mayor of Burlington since December 3, 2018. Joyce Savoline (born ) is a former politician in Ontario, Canada. She was a Progressive Conservative member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario representing the riding of Burlington from 2007 to 2011. Background Savoline was born in Shanghai, China and moved to Canada with her parents and sister in 1953. She and her husband moved to Burlington, Ontario in 1973. Savoline Boulevard in Milton, Ontario is named after the former Chair of Halton Region. Halton County is a former county in the Canadian province of Ontario, with an area of . It is also one of the oldest counties in Canada. The Niagara Escarpment is an approximately discontinuous, arc-shaped but generally northward-facing escarpment, or cuesta, in Canada and the United States. The escarpment begins south of Lake Ontario and circumscribes the top of the Great Lakes Basin running from New York (state), New York through Ontario, Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Michigan, and Wisconsin.
