The Redcliffe Peninsula is a peninsula located in the City of Moreton Bay in the northeast of the Brisbane metropolitan area in Queensland, Australia. The area covers the suburbs of Clontarf, Kippa-Ring, Margate, Moreton Island, Newport, Redcliffe, Rothwell, Scarborough and Woody Point. Redcliffe was the site of the first European settlement in Queensland, and was previously governed by its own local government area, the City of Redcliffe. Stratford Canning, 1st Viscount Stratford de Redcliffe (4 November 1786 – 14 August 1880), was a British diplomat who became best known as the longtime British Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire. A cousin of George Canning, he served as Envoy Extraordinary and Minister-Plenipotentiary to the United States between 1820 and 1824 and held his first appointment as Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire between 1825 and 1828. He intermittently represented several constituencies in parliament between 1828 and 1842. In 1841 he was re-appointed as Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire, serving in the position from January 1842 to 1858. In 1852 he was elevated to the peerage as Viscount Stratford de Redcliffe. Canning's hopes of high political office were repeatedly dashed. Redcliffe Nathan Salaman (12 September 1874 – 12 June 1955) was a British physician, biologist who pioneered the breeding of blight-free potatoes, Jewish nationalist, race scientist and key figure in the Anglo-Jewish community in the 20th century. His groundbreaking 1949 book ''The History and Social Influence of the Potato'' established the history of nutrients as a new literary genre. Early life and education Salaman was born in Kensington, London, and was the ninth of fifteen children born to Sarah () and Myer Salaman. His father was a wealthy merchant who traded in ostrich feathers at the height of the plume trade. The Salaman family were Ashkenazi Jews, who according to Salaman, migrated to Britain from either Holland or the Rhineland in the early 18th century. Margaret Jean Redcliffe-Maud, Baroness Redcliffe-Maud (; 1904 – 6 November 1993), was a British pianist. Darwall-Smith, Robin, ''A History of University College''. She married John Maud, later to become Lord Redcliffe-Maud, on 20 June 1932 in Oxford. On 1 July of that year, they sailed for South Africa and she kept a diary of her experiences in Africa that was later published in book form. Hamilton was a professional pianist. There is now a "John and Jean Redcliffe Maud prize" in the Contemporary Piano Competition at the Royal College of Music in London. Hamilton co-founded the University College Musical Society with her then fiancé, John Maud. Redcliffe Plantation State Historic Site is a state park in South Carolina, United States. Redcliffe Plantation, also known as Redcliffe, completed in 1859, is a Greek Revival plantation house located on the site that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The house was designed by the baron Louis Berckmans and was built in 1857. It was built for James Henry Hammond and was home to three generations of his descendants.
