Red Sea Governorate
The Red Sea Governorate ( ) is one of the 27 governorates of Egypt. Located between the Nile and the Red Sea in the southeast of the country, its southern border forms part of Egypt's border with Sudan. Its capital and largest city is Hurghada. Municipal divisions The governorate is divided into municipal divisions with a total estimated population as of January 2024 o410,229.In the case of Red Sea governorate, some are fully urban, some are fully rural, and some are a combination of both. Halaib
Halaib ( ) is a Red Sea port and town located in the Halaib Triangle, a disputed area between Egypt and Sudan. It is about southeast of the ruins of the medieval port ʽAydhab. Name Alternative spellings for the name include ''Halayeb'', ''Hala'ib'', and ''Halayib''. Geography In the Halaib region, Afrotropical elements reach their northernmost limits at Gabal Elba, making it a unique region among the regions dominating North African ecosystems. Siyal Islands
The Siyal Islands are a group of islands off the coast of northeastern Africa, located in the Red Sea. The islands are located in the Halaib Triangle, which is claimed by both Sudan and Egypt, as part of an ongoing border dispute. Since the 1990s, the islands have been occupied by Egypt, and so the islands are ''de facto'' administered by Egypt. They remain, however, to be claimed by Sudan. Environment The islands are surrounded by rocks and coral, and have a sandy surface with scant marine vegetation. The local fishermen, descendants of the Huteimi peoples identified by J. R. Wellsted, harvest turtle and bird eggs from the surrounding area. Halaib Triangle
The Halaib Triangle is an area of land measuring located on the Northeast African coast of the Red Sea. The area, which takes its name from the town of Halaib, is created by the difference in the Egypt–Sudan border between the "political boundary" set in 1899 by the Anglo-Egyptian Condominium, which runs along the 22nd parallel north, and the "administrative boundary" set by the British in 1902, which gave administrative responsibility for an area of land north of the line to Sudan, which was an Anglo-Egyptian client at the time. With the independence of Sudan in 1956, both Egypt and Sudan claimed sovereignty over the area.
