The National Sports Awards are given by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the government of Bangladesh for specific contributions in the field of games and sports. The award was introduced in 1976. As of 2011, total 175 sports personalities won the award. Awards The awardees include the organisers of games and sports, and the individuals displaying extraordinary performances in football, hockey, cricket, swimming, shooting, chase, and athletics. Each awardee is entitled to a gold medal and twenty thousand taka in cash. Next the amount of cash was increased to tk 50,000 in May 2017 and now tk 1,00,000 each from November 2019. The Ministry of Youth and Sports (; ''Yuba ō krīṛā mantraṇālaẏa'') is the government ministry of Bangladesh. The Ministry governs the associations like National Sports Council (NSC), Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA), Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP), and the coalitions and Associations combined under the NSC. Ibrahim Saber
Ibrahim Saber (1945 – 19 June 2019) was a Bangladeshi field hockey player and captain of Bangladesh men's national field hockey team. In recognition of his contribution in sports, he won the National Sports Awards in 1997. Career Saber was a member of the Pakistan men's national field hockey team in the 1970s. In 1971, he was one of the team members who represented Pakistan at the Barcelona World Cup. After the liberation of Bangladesh, he was included in the National Hockey team of Bangladesh. He was the vice-captain of Bangladesh team at the Asian Games in 1978. He captained Bangladesh during an exhibition match against the touring Sri Lanka men's national field hockey team in 1978. Omar Khaled Rumi (commonly known as Rumi, January 1950) is a Bangladeshi cricketer. Daulat Zaman
Daulat-uz-Zaman (1947–30 March 2002) was a fast bowler who played first-class cricket for different teams in East Pakistan in the 1960s. Later, in 1979, he represented Bangladesh in the first ICC trophy tournament in England. In 22 first-class matches he took 40 wickets at 35 apiece, with a career best of 5/105. Mohammed Kaikobad (; born 15 July 1946) is a retired Bangladeshi football player and coach. Early career Kaikobad began his football career after completing his matriculation exams in 1961 by joining the junior team of Kazipara Union Club. The following year, he played in the Brahmanbaria First Division Football League with Kazipara's senior team. Kabir Ahmed (; 2 February 1935 – 3 January 2019) was a Bangladeshi football player and coach. He was one of the few East Pakistani players to have represented the Pakistan national team. He was part of the legendary East Pakistani attacking trio of Kabir, Mari Chowdhury and Ashraf Chowdhury. Club career Kabir began his career with Town Club in the Barishal First Division in 1951. Zahirul Haque (; 5 January 1935 – 6 January 2024), simply known as Zahir, was a Bangladeshi association football, footballer who played as a right-back. Early life Born in Nabinagar Upazila of Brahmanbaria District on 5 January 1935, Zahir completed his Matriculation examination from Salgram High School in 1952. Sheikh Mohammad Aslam (; born 1 March 1958), popularly known as Aslam, is a Bangladeshi former footballer. He played as a specialist striker and was one of the most lethal marksmen in domestic league during the 1980s and 1990s. Raquib Khandaker
Abdur Raquib Khandaker (; 1 March 1933 – 25 August 2010), better known as A R Khandaker, was the 8th Inspector General of Bangladesh Police. Early life Abdur Raquib Khandaker was admitted to Uttar Shekhar Nagar Government Primary School. He continued his education at Rai Bahadur Sreenath Institution and later graduated from Notre Dame College, Dhaka. Zobera Rahman Linu is a Bangladeshi table tennis player. She won a record 16 national championships during 1979–2001. Sheikh Ashraf Ali (; born May 1946) is a retired a Bangladeshi football player and coach. Early life Sheikh Ashraf Ali was born in Calcutta, British India, in 1946, the son of Sheikh Shahzada and Rahatunnessa. His father was a police officer. During the 1946 Calcutta Killings, the majority of Ashraf's joint-family members died, leading them to move to Jessore (now part of Bangladesh). In 1950, only two years after the partition of India, Ashraf's family returned to Calcutta due to an epidemic in Jessore. Monwar Hossain Nannu (; 27 August 1948 – 16 February 2008) was a Bangladeshi football player during the 1970s and early 1980s. Initially, he played as an attacking midfielder for Abahani Krira Chakra in the First Division. Following an injury in the mid-1970s, he moved to the central defender position and excelled in that position as well. He was a member of Bangladesh's first national football team.
