Ravels () is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Antwerp. The municipality comprises the towns of Poppel, Ravels proper and Weelde. In 2021, Ravels had a total population of 15,105. The total area is 94.99 km2. A large proportion of its inhabitants are immigrants from The Netherlands. The local economy is mainly agrarian. Ravels is a center of livestock farming in Belgium (especially cows, pigs, poultry), since the local climate is ideal for the animals. The town hall and the municipal services are located in Weelde. Poppel (village)
Poppel is a village in the municipality of Ravels, in the province of Antwerp, Belgium. As of 2021, it was home to 3,489 people. Poppel was a municipality until 1977. Poppel borders the Dutch province of North Brabant. Poppel used to be located in a large heath area, however cultivation have transformed into forests and agricultural land. It used to be a domain of the Duchy of Brabant. In 1347, Poppel and nine other villages became part of the Land of Turnhout within Antwerp. Oud-Turnhout
Oud-Turnhout () is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Antwerp. The municipality only comprises the town of Oud-Turnhout proper. In 2021, Oud-Turnhout had a total population of 14,201. The total area is 38.80 km². There are 3 parishes: Zwaneven in the east, St. Bavo in the centre and Oosthoven in the North. Zwaneven is in the upmarket residential area referred to as "De Lint", where many Dutch people live. History The village was first mentioned in 1333 as "Vetus Turnoltum". Oud (old) has been added to distinguish from the village which developed around the castle which was built in 1109 or 1110. That village would eventually become the city of Turnhout. Arendonk () is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Antwerp. The municipality comprises only the town of Arendonk proper. In 2021, Arendonk had a total population of 13,207. The total area is 55.38 km2. The spoken language is Kempenlands (an East Brabantian dialect, which is very similar to colloquial Dutch). Nickname The nickname for a person living in Arendonk is "Telowerelè'er" meaning dish-licker.
