RMITV Alumni
RMITV is a Nonprofit organization, not-for-profit, Community television in Australia, community access television production facility based at RMIT University City Campus in Melbourne, Australia. It is a full member of the C31 Melbourne, Melbourne Community Television Consortium, a not-for-profit consortium that operates the community access channel C31 Melbourne, C31 which broadcasts throughout Melbourne and Geelong. About RMITV is a student run media production house based within RMIT University, with the majority of its funding granted by RMIT Student Union, RMIT University Student Union (RUSU). RMITV is dedicated to providing hands on television experience to students. RMITV also produces content to be broadcast, most commonly on C31 Melbourne and have helped many students find their way to careers in the television industry. Waleed Aly
Waleed Aly (born 15 August 1978) is an Australian television presenter, journalist, academic, and lawyer. Aly is a lecturer in politics at Monash University working in their Global Terrorism Research Centre, and a co-host of Network Ten's news and current affairs television program '' The Project''. He also writes for Fairfax Media, co-hosts ''The Minefield'', an ABC RN program about ethical dilemmas of modern life, and is lead guitarist in rock band Robot Child. In 2016, he won the Gold Logie Award for Best Personality on Australian Television. Early life and education Aly was born on 15 August 1978 in Melbourne, Victoria, to Egyptian parents. He is a Sunni Muslim. He attended Wesley College, completing the International Baccalaureate in 1996. He then studied at the University of Melbourne, graduating with Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical) and Bachelor of Laws (with honours) degrees in 2002. Live On Bowen
''Live on Bowen'' was a one-hour Melbourne comedy talk show and variety show produced by RMITV with the support of the RMIT Student Union which aired on C31 Melbourne. The show featured comedic segments, special guest interviews and music acts ranging from the up-and-coming to high-profile artists. Like its predecessor ''Studio A'', the show aimed to provide a platform to showcase an array of Melbourne’s up and coming talent. Origin of the name The word Bowen was taken from the name of the street that runs through the RMIT City Campus which building 12, the building the TV Studios are located, was situated. Peter Helliar
Pete Jason Matthew Helliar (born 16 June 1975) is an Australian comedian, actor, television, radio presenter, writer, producer and director. He is best known for his work on television as a former regular co-host of '' The Project'' on Network Ten from January 2014 to December 2022, replacing previous presenter Dave Hughes to host alongside Carrie Bickmore, Waleed Aly and Lisa Wilkinson. Helliar also appeared with Rove McManus as his sidekick on '' The Loft Live'' from 1997 to 1998, on '' Rove'' from 1999 and 2009 and in '' Before the Game'' as alter ego Bryan Strauchan. Dave Thornton (born 13 December 1979) is an Australian stand-up comedian, actor, television and radio presenter. He has performed stand-up comedy throughout Australia, in Edinburgh, Singapore and New York. He has also appeared on Australian television and radio. Career Stand-up comedy Thornton began working in stand-up comedy at the Geelong heats of Raw Comedy in 2002. Thomas Little (born 23 February 1985) is an Australian comedian, writer, actor, television and radio presenter. He currently co-hosts '' Carrie & Tommy'' on the Hit Network with Carrie Bickmore. He formerly was a co-host on '' The Project'' on Network 10. Career In 2013, Little performed at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and appeared at the festival's Gala show, which showcases five-minute sets of dozens of comedians. Triple J
Triple J is an Australian government-funded national radio station founded in 1975 as a division of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). It aims to appeal to young listeners of alternative music, and plays far more Australian content than commercial networks. The station was set up under the Gough Whitlam government, wanting to extend the appeal of the ABC to young Australians. Initially broadcasting as 2JJ or Double Jay from 19 January 1975, it stood apart from commercial stations with its lack of private advertising and its fringe music programming. Hamish & Andy are an Australian comedy duo formed in 2003 by Hamish Blake and Andy Lee. Best known for their various drive time radio programmes on the Hit Network, which aired in multiple formats until 2017, their shows gained consistently high market share and became the highest rated radio show in Australian history.
