Quad City Thunder
The Quad City Thunder was a Continental Basketball Association franchise that was based in the Quad Cities of Illinois and Iowa. They played in the CBA from the 1987–88 season until the CBA folded in 2001. The Thunder were successful on the court, capturing CBA championships in the 1993–94 and 1997–98 seasons, and runner-up in the 1990–91 season. The Thunder played in Moline, Illinois, first at Wharton Field House before moving to the new MARK of the Quad Cities in 1993. History The Thunder first began play at the Wharton Field House in Moline, Illinois, (former home of the NBA's Tri-Cities Blackhawks) in the 1987–88 season, with 6,047 fans attending the first home game. Tate Claude George (born May 29, 1968) is an American former professional basketball player who was selected by the New Jersey Nets with the 22nd overall pick in the 1990 NBA Draft from the University of Connecticut. Alvin Sims (born October 18, 1974) is an American former professional basketball player. A 6'4" (1.93 m) guard from Paris High School in Paris, Kentucky, Sims played at the University of Louisville from 1993 to 1997, where he averaged 11.9 points per game as a junior. He began his career in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) with the Quad City Thunder, where he was selected as the CBA Rookie of the Year in 1998. The Sioux Falls Skyforce are an American professional basketball team of the NBA G League based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and are affiliated with the Miami Heat. Rockford Lightning
The Rockford Lightning was a basketball team that played in the Continental Basketball Association. They were based in Rockford, Illinois. History The Lightning were the oldest team in the CBA, originally existing as the Lancaster Red Roses from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. That team changed their name to the Lancaster Lightning, then the franchise moved to Baltimore for a year before relocating in Rockford. Their home arena was the MetroCentre. They were the runners-up in the 2001-02 and 2004-05 CBA seasons, losing a winner-take-all championship game to the Dakota Wizards 116–109 in 2002, and a best-of-5 series to the Sioux Falls Skyforce 3–1 in 2005. Cedric Henderson (October 3, 1965 – April 5, 2023) was an American professional basketball player who briefly played in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Career Henderson went to school in Lithia Springs, Georgia, then played basketball in Jefferson City, Tennessee, before transferring to Marietta High School. In 1984, he ranked among the nation's top high school basketball prospects. He verbally committed himself to play college basketball at Louisville, but then went to Carson-Newman College, before it was found out that he had not graduated from high school. He attended an international-studies program in Jamaica and finally graduated from an alternative high school in Atlanta, Georgia. A 6'8" forward, Henderson then joined the Georgia Bulldogs, making his debut in December 1984. Ashraf Omar Amaya (born November 23, 1971) is an American former professional basketball player. High school career Amaya attended Oak Park and River Forest High School for his freshman year, but he transferred to Walther Lutheran High School to finish his high school career. Matthew Edward Fish (born November 18, 1969) is an American retired professional basketball player who played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the Los Angeles Clippers, Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks, Miami Heat and Washington Bullets. Barry Mitchell (born April 28, 1965) is an American former professional basketball player. College career Mitchell attended First Colonial High School in his hometown of Virginia Beach, Virginia. During his time there he was a standout athlete in basketball and earned All-State honors. He then enrolled at Norfolk State where he studied physical education. At the time, Norfolk State was playing in the NCAA Division II and competed in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
