Puttkamer Family
The Puttkamer family (also abbreviated to ''v. Puttkamer'') is a widely extended German noble family whose earliest ancestor is first recorded between 1257 and 1260 in Sławno, Farther Pomerania. History The Puttkamer family considers Swienca family to be their first documented ancestors. However, despite using almost the same coat of arms, historians are divided on this issue. While some of its branches have awarded with the title of ''Graf'', others are entitled to the lesser ''Freiherr''. According to a widespread family tradition, many firstborn Puttkamer sons receive the first name of ''Jesco''. The branch of the family moved in the 16th century to Livonia and from there to the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Jesko or Jesco is a male given name, which is used among Slavs and in Germany. It is a short form of Jaromir or Jaroslaw and may mean "the peaceful one", "the brave one", "the proud one" or "the soldierly one". There may be a link with the name of Polish ruler Mieszko I. Jesko Von Puttkamer
Jesko Albert Eugen von Puttkamer (2 July 1855 – 23 January 1917) was a German diplomat, colonial administrator, and military officer who served as colonial governor of German Kamerun from 1895 to 1907. Early life and career Jesko von Puttkamer was born to an aristocratic family. His father, Robert von Puttkamer, served as Interior Minister of Prussia, while his aunt, Johanna von Puttkamer, was the wife of Otto von Bismarck. Puttkamer studied law at various schools throughout Germany, and as a young man became notorious for engaging in gambling and prostitution. In 1883, he began his diplomatic career working at the German Consulate in Chicago. Jesco Von Puttkamer
Jesco Hans Heinrich Max Freiherr von Puttkamer () was a German-American aerospace engineer, senior manager at NASA, and a pulp science fiction writer. He was an advocate of human space exploration, and the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI). While at NASA, he served as the program manager in charge of long-range planning of deep space crewed activities (flights beyond Earth orbit). He was regarded as an expert on the Russian space program. Puttkamer assisted with daily on-orbit operations at NASA from 2009 until 2012. He was given the nickname ''Jessie'' by DeForest Kelley, whom Puttkammer called ''Dee''. He died of a sudden flu-like illness on 27 December 2012.
