Putna, Suceava
Putna () is a commune in Suceava County, in the historical region of Bukovina, northeastern Romania. It is composed of two villages, namely Gura Putnei () and Putna. The Putna Monastery, Putna River, and the cave of Daniil Sihastrul are located in this commune. It is also the starting point of the Via Transilvanica long-distance trail. History As it is the case of other rural settlements from Suceava County, Putna was previously inhabited by a sizeable German community, more specifically by Zipser Germans (part of the larger Bukovina German community) during the modern period up until the mid 20th century, starting as early as the Habsburg period and, later on, the Austro-Hungarian period. Garoafa is a Commune in Romania, commune located in Vrancea County, Western Moldavia, Romania. It is composed of eight villages: Bizighești, Ciușlea, Doaga, Făurei, Garoafa, Precistanu, Răchitosu, and Străjescu. Putna Monastery
The Putna monastery () is a Romanian Orthodox monastery (one of the most important cultural) religious and artistic centers established in medieval Moldavia; as with many others, it was built and dedicated by Stephen the Great. Putna was founded on the lands perambulated by the Putna (which has its source in the Obcina Mare mountains, Bukovina). Stephen the Great is famous for building and influencing the building of dozens of churches and monasteries all over Moldavia (allegedly, he founded a religious edifice after each important military victory). The Putna Monastery houses the tombs of Stephen – nowadays, a place of pilgrimage –, and several of his family members.
