Pulaski Heights
Pulaski Heights is a section of the city of Little Rock, Arkansas, located in the north-central portion of the city. Locally, the area is referred to as the Heights. History The Pulaski Heights neighborhood was historically an affluent area of Little Rock and incorporated on August 1, 1905. The heavily wooded area grew from a few dozen families in the 1890s, to more than 300 once electricity and streetcars began to reach the area. A weekly newspaper, the Pulaskian, was written and published in the neighborhood. The area remained an independent community until 1916, when the residents voted to become Little Rock's Ninth Ward for the advantages of becoming an incorporated town, incorporated neighborhood, including a fire station. Pulaski Station (CTA Orange Line)
Pulaski is an 'L' station on the CTA's Orange Line, which runs between Midway Airport and The Loop; it is situated between and stations. Pulaski is located at Pulaski Road and 51st Street on the Southwest Side of Chicago, Illinois. The station is within the Archer Heights neighborhood, which is both residential and commercial, and the station itself is in a commercial district on Pulaski Road. Pulaski opened on October 31, 1993, the opening date of the Orange Line. The Pulaski station was proposed in 1980 and constructed from 1987 to 1993. When the station opened in 1993, it spurred commercial development in the surrounding area and led to a parking controversy on nearby residential streets. Construction ''LST-1088'' was laid down by the American Bridge Company of Ambridge, Pennsylvania, on 16 December 1944. The ship was launched on 11 February 1945, sponsored by Mrs. A. J. USS Pulaski (1854)
USS ''Pulaski'', was a side-wheel steamship, in service with the United States Navy. She was named for Casimir Pulaski. Named ''Metacomet'' when built for commercial owners in 1854, she served as USS ''Pulaski'' from 1858 to 1863, when she was sold by the Navy. ''Metacomet'' was built at New York City. She was chartered by the Navy in 1858 for use in the Paraguay expedition at monthly rate of $3,500, with an option to purchase her for $50,000. During the expedition she was commanded by Lieutenant William H. Macomb. In March 1859 she was deemed unseaworthy and not in a position to be navigated back to the United States. Subsequently purchased and renamed USS ''Pulaski'', she operated in South American waters from early 1859 until 22 January 1863, when she was decommissioned and sold by auction at Montevideo, Uruguay. SS ''Czar'' was an ocean liner for the then Russian American Line before World War I. In 1920–1930, the ship was named ''Estonia'' for the Baltic American Line, then named ''Pułaski'' for the PTTO (later Gdynia America Line) and as a UK Ministry of War Transport troopship, and as ''Empire Penryn'' after World War II. The liner was built in Glasgow for the Russian American Line in 1912 and sailed on North Atlantic routes from Liepāja (Libau) to New York. Fort Pulaski
Fort Pulaski National Monument is located on Cockspur Island between Savannah and Tybee Island, Georgia. It preserves Fort Pulaski, the place where the Union Army successfully tested rifled cannons in 1862, the success of which rendered brick fortifications obsolete. The fort was also used as a prisoner-of-war camp. The National Monument includes most of Cockspur Island (containing the fort) and all of the adjacent McQueens Island. Construction After the War of 1812, US President James Madison ordered a new system of coastal fortifications to protect the United States from a foreign invasion. Pulaski is a town in Iowa County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 3,591 at the 2018 census. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 44.6 square miles (115.6 km2), of which, 43.3 square miles (112.1 km2) of it is land and 1.4 square miles (3.5 km2) of it (3.02%) is water.
