Slovakia
Slovakia, officially the Slovak Republic, is a landlocked country in Central Europe. It is bordered by Poland to the north, Ukraine to the east, Hungary to the south, Austria to the west, and the Czech Republic to the northwest. Vihorlat Protected Landscape Area
Vihorlat Protected Landscape Area () is one of 14 protected landscape areas in Slovakia. The Landscape Area is in the middle part of the Vihorlatské vrchy mountains, in eastern Slovakia. It is in the Humenné, Sobrance and Snina districts. History The park was created on 28 December 1973 and the law creating it was amended on 19 April 1999. Geography, geology and biology The area of the Vihorlat Mountains is of volcanic origin. Beech, oak, ash, maple, and fir trees are most common in Vihorlat. The area contains about 2,000 species of invertebrates and 100 species of birds. Notable species include Eurasian lynx, wildcat, gray wolf, otter, black stork, Ural owl, lesser spotted eagle, and Eurasian eagle-owl. Abrahámsky Park
Abrahámsky Park is a nature reserve in the Slovak municipality of Abrahám. It covers an area of 10.85 ha and has a protection level of 4. Stužica
Stužica is a uniquely preserved and undisturbed primeval beech forest of the Outer Eastern Carpathians. It is located in Slovakia and borders with Poland and Ukraine. The forest has been protected since 1908 and in 1993 the area was upgraded to a National Nature Reserve. Devínska Kobyla
Devínska Kobyla (; ; ) is the highest peak in the Devín Carpathians, part of the Little Carpathians mountain range, and the highest point of Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. It is located between the boroughs of Devínska Nová Ves, Devín and Dúbravka, close to the border with Austria. Its peak elevation is 514 m (1686.3 ft) AMSL and its treeless summit contains an abandoned military missile base () that is officially inaccessible to the public. Belianske Tatras
Belianske Tatras (, ) is a mountain range in the Eastern Tatras of North Central Slovakia. The Eastern Tatras are part of the Tatra Mountains, which are part of the Inner Western Carpathians. The highest point is Havran at . Like most of the area, the peak is not accessible for tourists to protect the rare animals and plants. The first inhabitants were shepherds in the 14th century. Záhorie Protected Landscape Area
Záhorie Protected Landscape Area () is the first lowland protected landscape area in Slovakia. It is located in the non-administrative Záhorie Region in West Slovakia. The Landscape Area protects 275.22 km² (106.26 mi²) and is divided into two separate parts – western and north-eastern. The western part starts near the village of Kúty in the north, follows the borders between Slovakia and Austria alongside the Morava River and ends near Stupava in the south. The north-eastern part is bordered by the Military District of Záhorie in the east and south. East Carpathians Protected Landscape Area () is a protected landscape area in north-eastern Slovakia, in the Prešov Region, in the Carpathian Mountains. The PLA occupies a slice of land along with the border with Poland.
