Protected Areas Of Ontario
This is a list of protected areas of Ontario that are administered by Government of Ontario. Ontario Parks and the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks are the provincial bodies responsible for managing these protected areas. Creation Provincial Parks are authorized under Provincial Parks Act, a Revised Statutes of Ontario created in 1913 and excluded their lands from agriculture or settlement and the park it self is created under unconsolidated Regulations. Types There are four main types of protected areas in Ontario: * Provincial parks: Areas containing significant natural and cultural features, and provide opportunities for outdoor recreation, scientific research and environmental monitoring, and education. Amable Du Fond River Provincial Park
The Amable du Fond River is a river in Nipissing District, in Northern Ontario, Canada. The river is named after Amable Dufond, a Native hunter and trapper who lived in this area in the mid-19th century. At one time, the river was used to transport logs downstream to the Mattawa River. A timber slide was built to bypass the rapids at the Eau Claire Gorge. Many canoe trippers use the river as an access point to enter Algonquin Park. However, this route is technically difficult, and requires advanced canoeing skills due to low summer water flow and unmaintained portages and campsites. The park has an access point located on Kawawaymog (Round Lake), from the access point it is just a short paddle and portage into Algonquin Provincial Park. Batchawana River Provincial Park
The Batchawana River is a river in Algoma and Sudbury Districts of Ontario, Canada, which empties into Batchawana Bay on Lake Superior north of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. The name "Batchawana" is derived from the Ojibwe word ''obatchiwanang'', meaning "current at the strait" or "narrows and swift water there", and refers to the turbulent or bubbling waters flowing between Batchawana Island and Sand Point (directly east of the Batchawana River's mouth). A trading post was established near the mouth of the river for fur trading around 1817 or 1819 by clerks of the North West Company. The Hudson's Bay Company appears to have operated a post there as well circa 1868-1869. Barron River Provincial Park
The Barron River (''French: rivière Barron'') is a river in the Saint Lawrence River drainage basin in Nipissing District and Renfrew County, Ontario, Canada. It flows from Clemow Lake in northern Algonquin Provincial Park and joins the Petawawa River, whose southern branch it forms, in the municipality of Laurentian Hills, near the municipality of Petawawa. Balsam Lake Provincial Park is a provincial park located in south-central Ontario, Canada, on Balsam Lake. The park is situated along the Trent-Severn Waterway, a few kilometres southwest of Coboconk. It is an all-seasons recreation area offering camping, boating and fishing, and while closed in winter it is also used for skiing and snowshoeing. Environment Balsam Lake is part of a waterway that extends 389 kilometres across Ontario. Awenda Provincial Park
Awenda Provincial Park is a provincial park in Tiny Township, Simcoe County in Central Ontario, Canada, located on a peninsula jutting into Georgian Bay north of Penetanguishene. The park occupies an area of and was established in 1975. It is classified as a Natural Environment Park and therefore all land is protected. Giants Tomb Island, located in southern Georgian Bay approximately from the mainland and the majority of the island is part of the park. On the island, no overnight camping is allowed, and no facilities are provided. Recreational activities at Awenda include camping, swimming, canoeing and hiking. Geological features include the Nipissing Bluff and a kettle lake formed during the retreat of the glaciers at the end of the most recent ice age. The shoreline consists of a series of sand, cobble, and boulder beaches. The Aubinadong-Nushatogaini Rivers Provincial Park is a provincial park in Algoma District, Ontario, Canada. It protects a network of rivers and lakes, in particular portions of the West Aubinadong and Nushatogaini Rivers, as well as a series of lakes extending south from the West Aubinadong-Nushatogaini confluence towards Ranger Lake, such as Saymo, Gong, Island, Mystery, and Friendly Lakes. As a waterway park, it includes a strip of land along both banks of the rivers and along the shores of the lakes. The Nushatogaini is a tributary of the West Aubinadong, which in turn drains in the Aubinadong River. These rivers are sandy bottom streams with some rocky whitewater sections. Aubinadong River Provincial Park
The Aubinadong River is a river in Sudbury and Algoma Districts, Ontario, Canada. It is a right tributary of the Mississagi River. Description The river springs in Whitehead Township, a geographic township in the northwestern part of Sudbury District. It flows in a mostly southerly direction through a variety of landscapes with high, rugged rock cliffs in the north, and flatter, lower lying areas in the south. It has generally wide, deep, slow-moving stretches interspersed by narrow channels of whitewater. Its dark water has a considerable amount of humic acid. The river forms part of a traditional indigenous canoe route, linking the interior with Lake Huron via the Mississagi River. It is still used for canoe camping as the main recreational activity.
