Professional Wrestling In Canada
The history of Professional wrestling in Canada dates back to the founding of Maple Leaf Wrestling, which opened in 1930 and was the first known professional wrestling company in the country. Many Canadian wrestlers including Bret Hart, Roddy Piper, Adam Copeland, Edge, Chris Jericho, Trish Stratus and Kenny Omega have gone on to achieve worldwide success. Culturally, Canadian wrestling has been an overspill of professional wrestling in the United States, American wrestling with a generally similar ring style and business methodology. Four major National Wrestling Alliance, NWA territories were based out of Montreal, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver each (with a lesser fifth booking office in Moncton). Northern Championship Wrestling (Les Promotions NCW Inc.) is an independent professional wrestling promotion based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. History Founded in 1986 by François Poirier and Phil Bélanger in Joliette, Quebec as the Amateur Wrestling Association, while in high school. Lutte Internationale (; "International Wrestling") was a professional wrestling promotion based in Montreal from 1980 until 1987. The promotion was founded by Frank Valois, André the Giant and Gino Brito as Promotions Varoussac (VAlois, ROUSSimoff, and ACcocella Promotions). Lutte Internationale succeeded All-Star Wrestling and Grand Prix Wrestling as Quebec's top wrestling promotion for most of the 1980s. Paul Vachon (October 7, 1937 – February 29, 2024) was a Canadian professional wrestling, professional wrestler. He was a member of the Vachon family, Vachon wrestling family. He is perhaps best known by his ring name Butcher Vachon. Professional wrestling career Paul Vachon grew up as one of thirteen children of Ferdinand Vachon, a Montreal police officer.
