Priorat
Priorat () is a comarca (county) in Catalonia, Spain. The central part of the comarca, "Priorat històric," produces the highly regarded wines that are certified under the DOQ Priorat. Wines from elsewhere in the comarca are certified as DO Montsant although this region also has a small segment of the neighboring comarca, Ribera d'Ebre as well. However, galena mining was the main activity since prehistoric times until 1972, when the last galeana mine closed. The other main agricultural activity is the production of olives and olive oil, the latter of which is certified under DOP Siurana. Historically there was greater production of hazelnuts and almonds but these activities have become mostly for personal use. In late 1800s, a devastating attack of the insect phylloxera destroyed vines and mining kept activities and around twenty mines opened at that time. El Molar, Priorat
El Molar is a municipality in the comarca of Priorat, Tarragona Province, Catalonia, Spain. Most of the local economy is based on vineyards, as well as almond and olive tree plantations. History Remnants of two ancient villages, the oldest from the 6th or 7th century, are within the El Molar municipal term. The present village dates from the 13th century after the area had been reconquered from the saracens. During medieval times the town was part of the Barony of Entença. According to an 1156 document by which Ramon Berenguer IV ceded the territory to the Poblet Monastery, El Molar was linked to neighboring Garcia town. This situation ended in the 19th century. El Molar was bombed by Condor Legion planes during the Spanish Civil War. Marçà
Marçà is a municipality in the comarca of Priorat, Tarragona Province, Catalonia, Spain. History In medieval times, after the area had been reconquered from the Saracens, the town became part of the Barony of Entença. The now ruined Sant Marçal monastery was founded in 1611. It was closed down due to the Ecclesiastical Confiscations of Mendizábal in 1835 during Isabella II of Spain's rule. The ''Desamortización'' or secularization of the place brought monastic life in the monastery to an end. Despite having lost almost half of its population since 1900, nowadays Marçà is the third most important town in the Priorat comarca. Cornudella De Montsant
Cornudella de Montsant is a municipality in the ''comarca'' of the Priorat in Catalonia, Spain. It is situated in the north-west of the ''comarca'' below the Montsant range and the Prades Mountains. The Siurana reservoir is on the territory of the municipality and supplies its drinking water. Sites near to the village include the Sant Joan del Codolar Hermitage. The village derives income from tourism and agriculture, particularly wine and hazelnuts. Cornudella de Montsant is at the centre of one of the world's major rock climbing regions. Capçanes
Capçanes is a Catalan village in the province of Tarragona in north-eastern Spain. It is situated in the comarca of Priorat.
