Indochinese Communist Party
The Indochinese Communist Party (ICP) was a political party which was transformed from the old Vietnamese Communist Party () in October 1930. This party dissolved itself on 11 November 1945. It is considered the first stage in the history of the Communist Party of Vietnam. Background The Vietnamese Communist Party was founded on 3 February 1930 by uniting the Communist Party of Indochina (despite its name, this party was active only in Tonkin) and the Communist Party of Annam (active only in Cochinchina). Tôn Đức Thắng (; 20 August 1888 – 30 March 1980) was the second President of Vietnam under the leadership of General Secretary Lê Duẩn. The declaration of independence of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam () was written by Hồ Chí Minh, and announced in public at the Ba Đình square in Hanoi on 2 September 1945. It led to the foundation of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (DRV), replacing the Empire of Vietnam under the Nguyễn dynasty and Emperor Bảo Đại, who abdicated on August 25. This declaration was a declaration of independence from France, but France initially never recognized the DRV as an independent country. Nguyễn Hữu Thọ (; 10 July 1910 – 24 December 1996) was a South Vietnamese politician, revolutionary and Chairman of Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam from 6 June 1969 to 2 July 1976, and the Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam from 4 July 1981 to 18 June 1987. Nguyễn Hữu Thọ began his political career in 1949, when he led protests against French colonial rule of Indochina and the patrols of US naval warships off the coast of southern Vietnam.
