Presidente Hayes () is a department in Paraguay. The capital is the city of Villa Hayes. The department was named after U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes, who awarded the territory to Paraguay while arbitrating a boundary dispute between Paraguay and Argentina after the Paraguayan War. Alto Paraguay Department
Alto Paraguay (; ''Upper Paraguay'') is the least populous as well as a sparsely populated department of Paraguay. The capital is the town of Fuerte Olimpo. In 1992, the Chaco Department was merged with Alto Paraguay. Nature and national parks Alto Paraguay contains many natural resources, so is home to several national parks, each with different characteristics. The Defensores del Chaco National Park is the largest in the Paraguayan territory and holds the hill Cerro León, the highest point in northern Paraguay. The dry terrain optimally grows various species of cactus. Parque Nacional Río Negro is an area with several small lakes and most of the department's fauna. In the dry regions are Parque Nacional Coronel Cabrera and Parque Nacional Chovoreca. Pozo Colorado
Pozo Colorado is a town in Paraguay, located in the department of Presidente Hayes. First references for the place comes from the late 1890s. It was originally an Enxet village yexwase’ yamelkyet. Pozo Colorado is the Spanish translation for Red Well. After the Chaco War, it became primarily a military base, surrounded by ranches whose owners lived mainly in Asunción. As the Ruta Transchaco cut across the Chacoan plain, entrepreneurs arrived creating a small civilian enclave setting up small businesses. It is now quite a thriving small town or village with more petrol stations than any other small town of Paraguay. Besides the military presence, the police are also there, as well as other government offices that have to do with cattle sanitation and husbandry. Fuerte Olimpo () is a city in Paraguay. It is the capital of the department of Alto Paraguay. Straddling the river Paraguay which forms the border with Brazil, Fuerte Olimpo is Paraguay's northernmost departmental capital, located over 830 km (515 mi) north of the capital Asunción. It was originally called Fuerte Borbón. The city is also known as “la puerta de entrada al Pantanal”, or entrance to the Pantanal region.
