Powerlifting At The Commonwealth Games
Para powerlifting is one of the sports at the quadrennial Commonwealth Games. It has been a Commonwealth Games sport since 2002 (with core sport status through 2022), though it was initially held as part of the weightlifting competitions; in contrast to other parasports, it is categorised separately since the able-bodied equivalent is not a Games sport. The sport made its debut as a single openweight competition for men in 2002; a women's openweight competition followed in 2010, and each gender has contested 2 weight classes since 2014. Nigeria has been the dominant nation in this sport, winning every single gold medal across five Games (and all medals awarded at Delhi 2010). Paralympic Powerlifting
Paralympic powerlifting, also known as para powerlifting and para-lifting, is an adaptation of the sport of powerlifting for athletes with disabilities. The only discipline in Paralympic powerlifting is the bench press. The sport is governed by the International Paralympic Committee ( World Para Powerlifting) and is open to anyone with a minimum level of disability who can extend their arms within 20° of full extension during a lift. The Birmingham Organising Committee for the 2022 Commonwealth Games (BOCCG) is the organisation responsible for overseeing the planning and development of the 2022 Commonwealth Games. It was jointly established by the UK Government's Department for Culture, Media and Sport, the Birmingham City Council and the Commonwealth Games England and was structured as a private company limited by guarantee. The headquarters of the organising committee are located in One Brindleyplace and has taken up the 73,000 sq ft, five-floor office until December 2022. Bonnie Bunyau Gustin
Bonnie Bunyau anak Gustin (born 3 June 1999) is a Malaysian powerlifter. He won Malaysia's first ever gold medal in the sport in the men's 72 kg event at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo and again at the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris whilst breaking his own world record for men's 72 kg. Early and personal life Bonnie hails from Serian as well as Betong divisions, Sarawak and he is of mixed Bidayuh-Iban ancestry, two main Bumiputera native ethnic groups to the Malaysian state of Sarawak. His father, Gustin Jenang competed in Para powerlifting at the 2010 World Championships in Kuala Lumpur. Weightlifting At The Commonwealth Games
Weightlifting is one of the sports at the quadrennial Commonwealth Games competition. It has been a Commonwealth Games sport since 1950. It is a core sport and must be included in the sporting programme of each edition of the Games. A total of 17 events were contested at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, 8 for men 7 for women and two powerlifting events. The first women's events were introduced in 2002. Between 1990 and 2002 a medal was awarded for each of the snatch and clean and jerk phases and for the combined total, offering as many as 46 gold medals in 2002. Since 2006 medals have only been awarded based on the combined total of both of these phases, as is the case at the Olympics.
