Powellhurst-Gilbert is a neighborhood in the Southeast section of Portland, Oregon. It borders the neighborhoods of Montavilla, Hazelwood, and Mill Park on the north, Centennial on the east, Pleasant Valley on the east and south, and Lents and South Tabor on the west. According to the Neighborhood Plan, the neighborhood is named after two of its schools: Powellhurst (named in the 1920s after 1850s settler Jackson Powell) and Gilbert (named after William M. Gilbert, an Indiana emigrant who settled in the area c. 1890). Montavilla (a syllabic abbreviation of "Mt. Tabor Village) is a neighborhood in the Northeast and Southeast sections of Portland, Oregon, United States, and contains an area east of Mount Tabor and west of Interstate 205, from the Banfield to SE Division. It is bordered by North Tabor, Mount Tabor, South Tabor, Madison South, Hazelwood, and Powellhurst-Gilbert. History The neighborhood was originally, in the 1890s, named Mount Tabor Village, and was a stopping point for travelers going from Hood River into Portland. Mill Park is a neighborhood in the outer Southeast section of Portland, Oregon, United States. It borders Hazelwood on the west, north and east, and Powellhurst-Gilbert on the south. In addition to the park of the same name (acquired 1986), the neighborhood includes Midland Park (1986), Stark Street Island (1986), and Floyd Light Park (1985). Portland Parks & Recreation also operates the East Portland Community Center in the neighborhood. Midland Library, servicing Multnomah County, is also located in Mill Park. Centennial is a neighborhood on the eastern edge of the Southeast section of Portland, Oregon and a former census-designated place (CDP) on the border with Gresham. The neighborhood includes Lynchwood Park (1993) and Parklane Park (1993). The unrelated Centennial, Oregon post office near Delta Park in North Portland served the Oregon statehood Centennial Exposition from June to September 1959. Pleasant Valley, Portland, Oregon
Portland, Oregon is divided into six sections: North Portland, Northeast Portland, Northwest Portland, South Portland, Southeast Portland, and Southwest Portland. There are 95 officially recognized neighborhoods, each of which is represented by a volunteer-based neighborhood association. No neighborhood associations overlap the Willamette River, but a few overlap the addressing sextants.
