Powderfinger
Powderfinger were an Australian Rock music, rock band formed in Brisbane in 1989. From 1992 until their break-up in 2010, the line-up consisted of vocalist Bernard Fanning, guitarists Darren Middleton and Ian Haug, bass guitarist John Collins (Australian musician), John Collins and drummer Jon Coghill. The group's third studio album ''Internationalist (album), Internationalist'' peaked at No. 1 on the ARIA Charts, ARIA Albums Chart in September 1998. They followed with four more number-one studio albums in a row: ''Odyssey Number Five'' (September 2000), ''Vulture Street (album), Vulture Street'' (July 2003), ''Dream Days at the Hotel Existence'' (June 2007) and ''Golden Rule (album), Golden Rule'' (November 2009). Dream Days At The Hotel Existence
''Dream Days at the Hotel Existence'' is the sixth studio album by Australian music, Australian Rock music, rock band Powderfinger, released by Universal Music on 2 June 2007 in Australia, 19 November 2007 in the United Kingdom, and 11 November 2008 in the United States on the Dew Process label. It was released in Australia with a limited edition bonus DVD, titled ''Powderfinger's First XI'', featuring eleven music videos spanning the band's career, from the first single, "Tail" to "Bless My Soul", the band's latest single before the release of the album. A special edition, collector's edition, including a CD and DVD, was released on 18 April 2008. ''Odyssey Number Five'' is the fourth studio album by the Australian rock band Powderfinger, produced by Nick DiDia and released on 4 September 2000 by Universal Music. It won the 2001 ARIA Music Award for Highest Selling Album, Best Group and Best Rock Album. The album is the band's shortest yet, focusing on social, political, and emotional issues that had appeared in prior works, especially '' Internationalist''. The album produced four singles. ''Internationalist'' is the third studio album by Australian alternative rock band Powderfinger. The album was released on 7September 1998 and was often labelled Powderfinger's most adventurous work, with greater experimentation than in previous works. ''Internationalist'' followed in the success of its predecessor, ''Double Allergic'', and was certified five times platinum in Australia. ''Internationalist'' received four ARIA Music Awards, including "Album of the Year". ''Vulture Street'' is the fifth studio album by Australian alternative rock band Powderfinger, released on 29 July 2003 by Universal Music. It won the 2003 ARIA Music Award for Best Rock Album. Produced by Nick DiDia, ''Vulture Street'' was certified platinum, and spent 47 weeks on the ARIA Charts and peaked at #1. Singles from the album included " (Baby I've Got You) On My Mind", " Since You've Been Gone", " Love Your Way" and " Sunsets". My Happiness (Powderfinger Song)
"My Happiness" is a song by Australian rock band Powderfinger. It was released via record label Universal Music Australia in August 2000 as the first single from the band's fourth album, '' Odyssey Number Five''. Powderfinger frontman Bernard Fanning wrote the lyrics for "My Happiness" as a reflection on the time the band spent touring to promote their work, and the loneliness that came as a result. It was inspired by his love of gospel and soul music. The rest of the band are co-credited with Fanning for composing the track. Despite its melancholy mood, "My Happiness" is considered by many to be a love song, a suggestion Fanning regards as mystifying. Bernard Fanning
Bernard Joseph Fanning (born 15 August 1969) is an Australian musician and singer-songwriter. He was the lead vocalist of Queensland alternative rock band Powderfinger from its formation in 1989. Born and raised in Toowong, Brisbane, Fanning received piano lessons from his mother at an early age. At the age of 15, while he attended St Joseph's College, Gregory Terrace, he began writing music. Upon graduating from Gregory Terrace, Fanning moved on to the University of Queensland, where he studied journalism briefly. He dropped out to pursue a music career, after meeting Ian Haug in an economics class. Fanning joined Haug, John Collins (Australian musician), John Collins, and Steven Bishop, who had recently formed Powderfinger, and took the role of lead singer. Darren Middleton
Darren Middleton (born 4 October 1971) is an Australian musician, best known as lead guitarist and songwriter for alternative rock band Powderfinger. He was also lead singer/songwriter for Drag; his current solo tour is 'Splinters', a follow-up to his 2013 solo tour 'Translations.' The 'Splinters' tour is Middleton's tour of Western Australia and Victoria in August and November 2016, respectively. After Powderfinger's dissolution in 2010, Middleton released his first solo LP, 'Translations' in November 2013, featuring many guests such as Nic Cester ( Jet), Bernard Fanning (Powderfinger), Pete Murray, Paul Dempsey ( Something for Kate), Clare Bowditch and Amy Findlay (Stonefield). Jon Coghill
Jon Coghill (born 26 August 1971) is an Australian drummer best known for his work with the rock band Powderfinger, although he has also toured with Regurgitator. Coghill replaced Powderfinger's original drummer, Steven Bishop, in 1991. At this time, Powderfinger had not made any recordings, and as such, Coghill has been the group's drummer for all of their releases. Biography Coghill attended Nambour State High School in Nambour, Queensland where his father was a Physics teacher, graduating in 1988. While in high school, Coghill's ambitions were not directed towards music, as he expressed an interest in football or surfing. Upon graduating, he moved to Queensland's state capital Brisbane and began studying Botany at the University of Queensland, however was interested in the Brisbane local music scene. "These Days" is a 1999 song by Australian alternative rock band Powderfinger, later included on their fourth studio album, ''Odyssey Number Five''. "These Days" was not released as a Single (music), single; however, it topped the Triple J Hottest 100 chart in Triple J Hottest 100, 1999, 1999. Ian Haug
Ian Haug (born 21 February 1970) is an Australian musician and the lead guitarist, songwriter, and backing vocalist in the rock band Powderfinger from its formation in 1989 until its breakup in 2010. He is presently a member of The Church. Powderfinger Powderfinger in 1989 by vocalist and guitarist Ian Haug, bass guitarist John Collins and drummer Steven Bishop, who took their band's name from the Neil Young song "Powderfinger". Before the band's formation, Haug had played in other Brisbane-based outfits. The band later sought an extra guitarist, Bernard Fanning, who Haug had met in a university class. Fanning took over the role of lead vocals from Haug, and at the same time Jon Coghill joined, replacing Bishop. Across The Great Divide Tour
The Across the Great Divide tour was a concert tour by Australian alternative rock bands Powderfinger and Silverchair in 2007. The tour featured concerts in 26 towns across Australia and multiple shows in New Zealand. According to Powderfinger frontman Bernard Fanning, the aim of the tour was to "show hatboth bands are behind the idea of reconciliation". Both bands aimed to increase awareness of the efforts of Reconciliation Australia to reduce the current 17-year gap in life expectancy between the average Australian life and that of Indigenous Australians. A triple DVD set was released with the same title as the tour on 1 December 2007 with the Melbourne performances for both bands and backstage occurrences from the tour.
