Politics Of The Federated States Of Micronesia
The politics of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) takes place in a framework of a Federation, federal List of countries by system of government#Assembly-independent republics, assembly-independent Representative democracy, representative democratic republic. The President of the Federated States of Micronesia is both head of state and head of government. Executive power is exercised by the president and his cabinet, while legislative power is vested in both the president and the Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia, Congress. Wesley Simina
Wesley Weilbacher Simina (born September 10, 1961) is a Micronesian politician who has served as the president of the Federated States of Micronesia since 2023. He served as the governor of Chuuk State, one of the four states that constitute the Federated States of Micronesia, from July 2005 to July 2011. Simina was re-elected to a second term as governor of Chuuk in a 2009 runoff election against Gillian N. Doone, the son of former Governor Gideon Doone. He and Lt. Governor Johnson Elimo were sworn into their second terms on July 2, 2009, in an inauguration ceremony held at the Saramen Chuuk Development Center at Saramen Chuuk High School in Weno, Chuuk. Simina resigned as governor in July 2011 to become Chuuk's at-large senator in the national Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia. Chuuk Lt. Gardenia Aisek (former surnames Walter and Macayaon) is a Microneasian educator and government official. Aisek served as a senator in the Chuuk State Legislature. She then became the first female Secretary of the Federated States of Micronesia Department of Education.
