This article lists political parties in Kenya. Political culture Kenya's system is one with characteristics comparable with a two-party system, since two dominant political parties c.q. coalitions have dominated since the last general elections in 2007. However, it has been a multi-party system since 1992 and one of the ruling coalitions consists of several parties. Kenya had over 160 registered political parties as of November 2007. Following the implementation of several Political Parties Acts starting with the 31 December 2008 act, the number of political parties has been coming down considerably since. 2022 Kenyan General Election
General elections were held in Kenya on Tuesday, 9 August 2022. Voters elected the President of Kenya, president, governors, Senate of Kenya, senators, members of the National Assembly (Kenya), National Assembly, and members of county assemblies. This was the third general election and the fourth presidential one since the promulgation of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010 constitution. Incumbent president Uhuru Kenyatta was not eligible for a third term according to the constitution, nor county governors who had served two terms. The 2022 general election saw the lowest number of presidential candidates cleared since the multi-party system was implemented in 1992. Parliamentarians were elected to sit in the 13th Parliament of Kenya. William Ruto was elected President of Kenya with 50.5% of the vote, defeating Raila Odinga who received 48.85% of the vote. William Ruto
William Kipchirchir Samoei Arap Ruto (born 21 January 1967) is a Kenyan politician who is the fifth and current president of Kenya since 13 September 2022. Prior to becoming president, he served as the first elected Deputy President of Kenya, deputy president of Kenya from 2013 to 2022. Chama Cha Uzalendo
The Chama Cha Uzalendo (, CCU) is a Kenyan political party established in 2004. The party is currently headed by Maur Bwanamaka. Moses Wetangula
Moses Masika Wetang'ula (born 13 September 1956), is the current Speaker of the National Assembly of Kenya, and leader of the FORD-Kenya, one of the most popular political parties in Western Kenya. He served as Kenya's Minister for Foreign Affairs from 2008 to 2010 and from 2011 to 2012, and as Minister for Trade from 2012 to 2013. Early life and education Wetangula attended Nalondo Primary School, Busakala Secondary school, Teremi Secondary School, and Friends School Kamusinga. He graduated from the University of Nairobi with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree. Forum For The Restoration Of Democracy – Kenya
Forum for the Restoration of Democracy–Kenya (FORD–Kenya) is a Kenyan political party. The party has sat in the government of Kenya once, under the National Rainbow Coalition, from 2003 to 2007, having ended forty years of one party (Kenya African National Union) rule. Wycliffe Musalia Mudavadi (born 21 September 1960 in Vihiga County Kenya Colony) is a Kenyan politician and land economist who is currently serving as Prime Cabinet Secretary of Kenya, and since 2023, in an expanded role of Foreign & Diaspora Affairs cabinet secretary of Kenya. Amani National Congress
The Amani National Congress (ANC) is a social-liberal political party in Kenya. It tends to be more popular among the Luhya people. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka (born 24 December 1953) is a Kenyan politician who was the tenth Vice-President of Kenya from 2008 to 2013. Musyoka served in the government under the late President Daniel arap Moi as the Secretary of Kenya African National Union party (1980-1988), Assistant Minister for Works (1986-1988), Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly (1988-1992), List of Foreign Ministers of Kenya, Minister for Foreign Affairs from 1993 until 1998, Minister of Education (1998-2001); and subsequently, under the late President Mwai Kibaki, he was Minister of Foreign Affairs again from 2003 to 2004, then Minister of the Environment from 2004 to 2005. The Wiper Democratic Movement–Kenya (WDM-K), formerly Orange Democratic Movement–Kenya (ODM–Kenya), is a political party in Kenya, which originated as a result of the 2005 Kenyan constitutional referendum. The party tends to be more popular among the Kamba people. Civic Nationalism
Civic nationalism, otherwise known as democratic nationalism, is a form of nationalism that adheres to traditional liberal values of freedom, tolerance, equality, and individual rights, and is not based on ethnocentrism.
