Platystictidae
Platystictidae is a family of damselflies, commonly known as shadowdamsels. They look very similar to the threadtail damselfly family ( Protoneuridae). They can mostly be found throughout Asia, Central America, and South America. Most members of this family live in dense forests in the tropics where they are found around streams. Their wings are narrow and their abdomen slender and elongated. The adults probably do not disperse far as many species are known from a single location or have small ranges and there are probably other species as yet undescribed. The oldest members of the family belong to the genus '' Mesosticta'' from the Cenomanian aged Burmese amber Burmese amber, also known as Burmite or Kachin amber, is amber from the Hukawng Valley in northern Myanmar. The amber is dated to around 100 million years ago, during the latest Albian to earliest Cenomanian ages of the mid-Cretaceous period. Th ... of Myanmar. Telosticta
''Telosticta'' is a genus of damselflies in the family Platystictidae, endemic to Borneo and Palawan. The genus was established with '' Telosticta feronia'' as the genotype.Dow, Rory & Orr, Albert. (2012). The Raffles Bulletin of Zoology. 60. 365-401. Currently, there are seventeen described species in ''Telosticta''.''Telosticta'' Dow & Orr, 2012 in GBIF Secretariat (2023). GBIF Backbone Taxonomy. Checklist dataset https://doi.org/10.15468/39omei accessed via GBIF.org on 2025-04-08. Taxonomy ''Telosticta'' was established to address an artificial taxonomic distinction made within the family, ''Platystictidae'', particularly concerning the genera '' Drepanosticta'' and '' Protosticta''. Historically, ''Drepanosticta'' was defined by the presence of an anal bridge vein, a minute venational characteristic that distinguished it from ''Protosticta''. However, this distinction has since, been deemed problematic as occasionally, specimens exhibit the ''Protosticta'' condition on ...

Damselfly
Damselflies are flying insects of the suborder Zygoptera in the order Odonata. They are similar to dragonflies (which constitute the other odonatan suborder, Epiprocta) but are usually smaller and have slimmer bodies. Most species fold the wings along the body when at rest, unlike dragonflies which hold the wings flat and away from the body. Damselflies have existed since the Late Jurassic, and are found on every continent except Antarctica. All damselflies are predatory insects: both nymphs and adults actively hunt and eat other insects. The nymphs are aquatic, with different species living in a variety of freshwater habitats including acidic bogs, ponds, lakes and rivers. The nymphs moult repeatedly, at the last moult climbing out of the water to undergo metamorphosis. The skin splits down the back, they emerge and inflate their wings and abdomen to gain their adult form. Their presence on a body of water indicates that it is relatively unpolluted, but their dependence on fr ...

Indosticta
''Indosticta deccanensis'', the saffron reedtail, is a damselfly species in the family Platystictidae. It is endemic to Western Ghats in India. This species was previously placed in the genus '' Platysticta'', but recent phylogenetic studies has revealed that the genus '' Platysticta'' is actually confined to Sri Lanka. For the South Indian species, formerly known as ''Platysticta deccanensis'', morphological and molecular analyses demonstrated that it does not belong to the Sri Lankan clade and a new genus ''Indosticta'' is erected to accommodate it. Description and habitat It is a medium-sized damselfly with bluish-white face and black-capped brown eyes. Its thorax is cinnamon brown with a black mid-dorsal carina. Its wings are transparent with yellowish-red pterostigma framed in black nervures. Abdomen is dark-brown up to segment 7 and segments 8 to 9 are azure blue bordered below with black. Segment 10 is blackish-brown. Anal appendages are black. Female is similar to the m ...

It is very widely distributed in hill streams of Western Ghats from Goa to Agasthyamala hills in Thirunelveli district of South India. Description and habitat It is a large slender damselfly with bottle-green eyes. Its thorax is glossy black, marked with a broad, creamy-white stripe on each side. There is a similar stripe on the posterior part of metepimeron. Abdomen is black, marked with white and blue. Segments 1 and 2 are white laterally. Segment 3 is with a narrow basal annule. Segments 4 to 7 are with broad basal annules. Segment 8 is with its basal half turquoise-blue and segments 9 and 10 are unmarked. Anal appendages are black. Female is very similar to the male, but shorter and more robustly built. It is usually found in first and second order streams with good riparian forest cover. Adults fly very low and rest in riparian vegetatio ...
