Pit River Tribes
The Pit River Tribe is a Federally recognized tribes, federally recognized tribe of eleven bands of indigenous peoples of California. They primarily live along the Pit River in the northeast corner of California.California Indians and Their Reservations.

Madesi Tribe
The Madesi tribe (pronounced as ''Mah-day-see'') are an Indigenous group of Native Americans in the United States, Native Americans who once thrived in the Big Bend region of the Pit River in northeastern California of the United States, the most down-stream section (AKA the Madesi Valley) of the Pit River (Ajumma) in the Pit River Tribal territory.Merriam, C. Lookout Rancheria
The Lookout Rancheria is a federal Indian reservation belonging to the Pit River Tribe, a federally recognized tribe of indigenous people of California. The ranchería is located in Modoc County in northern California. Lookout Rancheria is large and was established in 1913. The rancheria is adjacent to the Shasta National Forest and located about halfway between Burney and Alturas in northeastern California. It is located about east of the small community of Lookout in southwestern Modoc County. Education The ranchería is served by the Big Valley Joint Unified School District. Big Bend Rancheria
The Big Bend Rancheria is a settlement of the Pit River Tribe (Achomawi) north of Big Bend, California, Big Bend, in Shasta County, California, Shasta County, California. It is about northeast of Redding, California, Redding. This area lies in the traditional land of the Madesi Tribe. Palaihnihan Languages
Palaihnihan (also Palaihnih) is a small language family of northeastern California. It consists of two closely related languages, both now extinct: * Palaihnihan ** Atsugewi ** Achumawi (ís siwa wó disi, also known as Achomawi, Pit River Indian) Reconstruction The original reconstruction of proto-Palaihnihan suffered from poor quality data. David Olmsted's dictionary depends almost entirely upon de Angulo, who did not record the phonological distinctions consistently or well, and carelessly includes Pomo vocabulary from a manuscript in which he (de Angulo) set out to demonstrate that Achumawi and Pomo are not related. William Bright has also pointed out problems with Olmsted's methods of reconstruction. The reconstruction is being refined with newer data. Good, McFarland, & Paster (2003) conclude there were at least three vowels, *a *i *u, and possibly marginal *e, along with vowel length and ablaut.
