St Beuno's Church, Pistyll
St Beuno's Church is a Grade I listed building located north-west of the village of Pistyll, Gwynedd, Wales. The church is dedicated to Beuno, a 7th-century Welsh saint. History The village of Pistyll stands south-west of Abersoch just inland from the southern coast of the Llŷn Peninsula. The church stands to the north-east and is dedicated to Beuno, a 7th-century Welsh saint. The church dates back to the 12th century, but most of the present structure dates to later building campaigns, principally of the 15th century. The church was on the pilgrimage route to St Mary's Abbey on Bardsey Island. It maintains an ancient tradition of scattering the floor with "rushes and sweet-smelling herbs" at Christmas, Easter, and in August. Llŷn Peninsula
The Llŷn Peninsula ( or , ) is a peninsula in Gwynedd, Wales, with an area of about , and a population of at least 20,000. It extends into the Irish Sea, and its southern coast is the northern boundary of the Tremadog Bay inlet of Cardigan Bay. The peninsula was a cantref within the medieval kingdom of Gwynedd, and became part of Caernarfonshire from 1284 until that county was abolished for administrative purposes in 1974. It borders Arfon (UK Parliament constituency), Arfon and Eifionydd to the east, but the boundary is vague. Llithfaen () is a village on the North West of Wales on the Llŷn Peninsula in Gwynedd, Wales. It is within the community of Pistyll near Caernarfon Bay. Pwllheli is the nearest town, approximately away, and Caernarfon is away. There is a shop, pub, playground, community hall located in the village centre. Nant Gwrtheyrn is a Welsh language heritage centre near the village. There is a river called Afon Erch running from Llithfaen to the village of Abererch. The village of Trefor and Trefor Beach is nearby. As of 2002, musician Ian Brown had a holiday home in the village. Rupert Lisburn Gwynne Davies FRSA (22 May 191622 November 1976) was a British actor best remembered for playing the title role in the BBC's 1960s television adaptation of ''Maigret'', based on Georges Simenon's novels. Life and career Military service Davies was born in Liverpool. After service in the British Merchant Navy, he was a Sub-Lieutenant Observer with the Fleet Air Arm during the Second World War. In 1940, the pilot of his Swordfish aircraft in which Davies was aboard ditched into the sea off the Dutch coast, following which he was captured and interned in the Stalag Luft III prisoner of war camp. He made three attempts to escape, all of which failed. During his captivity, he began to take part in theatre performances, entertaining his fellow prisoners. Llanaelhaearn is a village on the Llŷn Peninsula in the Local government in Wales, county of Gwynedd, Wales. Located in the community of (prior to 2024 called just "Llanaelhaearn") which also includes the larger village of Trefor, Gwynedd, Trefor and has a population of 1,067, increasing to 1,117 at the 2011 Census.
