Pholcidae
The Pholcidae are a Family (biology), family of Araneomorphae, araneomorph spiders. The family contains more than 1,800 individual species of pholcids, including those commonly known as cellar spider, daddy long-legs spider, carpenter spider, daddy long-legger, vibrating spider, gyrating spider, long daddy, and angel spider. The family, first described by Carl Ludwig Koch in 1850, is divided into 94 genera. The common name "daddy long-legs" is used for several species, especially ''Pholcus phalangioides'', but is also the common name for several other arthropod groups, including Opiliones, harvestmen and Tipuloidea, crane flies. Appearance Pholcids have extremely long and thin legs with flexible Spider anatomy#Appendages, tarsi. They can be distinguished from other long-legged spiders by the eye arrangement: Pholcidae have two groups of three eyes each, and there may be a pair of small eyes in between them. Most have this middle pair present for a total of eight eyes, ...

Pholcus Phalangioides
''Pholcus phalangioides'', commonly known as the cosmopolitan cellar spider, long-bodied cellar spider, or one of various types called a daddy long-legs spider, is a spider of the family Pholcidae. It was first described in 1775 by the Swiss Entomology, entomologist Johann Kaspar Füssli (his surname is also spelt Fuesslin) as ''Aranea phalangoides''. Its common name of "daddy long-legs" should not be confused with a different arachnid group with the same common name, the Opiliones, harvestman (Opiliones), or the Crane fly, crane flies of the superfamily Tipuloidea. Females have a body length of about 8 mm while males tend to be slightly smaller. The length of the spider's legs are on average 5 or 6 times the length of its body. ''Pholcus phalangioides'' has a habit of living on the ceilings of rooms, caves, garages or cellars. This spider species is considered beneficial in parts of the world because it preys on other spiders, including species considered dangerous such a ...

Modisimus
''Modisimus'' is a genus of cellar spiders that was first described by Eugène Louis Simon in 1893. Description Spiders of the genus ''Modisimus'' have six eyes, unlike the eight typical of spiders. While some other pholcid genera also have six eyes, ''Modisimus'' differs from them in the prosoma having a median furrow and the eyes being situated on a turret (this turret is very high in males). Species it contains eighty-three species and one subspecies, found in Central America, Europe, Asia, North America, the Caribbean, South America, Australia, on the Seychelles, and the Pacific Islands: *'' M. angulatus'' Huber & Fischer, 2010 – Hispaniola *'' M. bachata'' Huber & Fischer, 2010 – Hispaniola *'' M. beneficus'' Gertsch, 1973 – Mexico *'' M. berac'' Huber, 2010 – Hispaniola *'' M. boneti'' Gertsch, 1971 – Mexico *'' M. bribri'' Huber, 1998 – Costa Rica, Panama *'' M. cahuita'' Huber, 1998 – Costa Rica *'' M. caldera'' Huber, 1998 – Panama *'' M. cavaticus'' ...

Pholcus
''Pholcus'' is a genus of spiders of long-bodied cellar spider and allies in the family Pholcidae, with 375 described species as of January 2023. It includes the cellar spider '' P. phalangioides'', often called the "daddy longlegs". This may cause confusion because the name "daddy longlegs" is also applied to two other unrelated arthropods: the harvestman and the crane fly. Description ''Pholcus'', like Pholcidae in general, have extremely long and thin legs. The genus can be distinguished from other pholcid genera by its large size (body length >4 mm), eight eyes, evenly domed prosoma (lacking a median furrow or pit) and cylindrical opisthosoma (longer than it is high). Habitat In the wild, ''Pholcus'' live in environments such as caves, under rocks, forest shrubs and deep limestone cracks. Synanthropic species such as ''P. phalangioides'' live in and around buildings and other disturbed habitats. Species * '' Pholcus abstrusus'' Yao & Li, 2012 — China * '' Pholcu ...

Opiliones
The Opiliones (formerly Phalangida) are an Order (biology), order of arachnids, Common name, colloquially known as harvestmen, harvesters, harvest spiders, or daddy longlegs (see below). , over 6,650 species of harvestmen have been discovered worldwide, although the total number of extant taxon, extant species may exceed 10,000. The order Opiliones includes five suborders: Cyphophthalmi, Eupnoi, Dyspnoi, Laniatores, and Tetrophthalmi, which were named in 2014. Representatives of each extant suborder can be found on all continents except Antarctica. Well-preserved fossils have been found in the 400-million-year-old Rhynie cherts of Scotland, and 305-million-year-old rocks in France. These fossils look surprisingly modern, indicating that their basic body shape developed very early on, and, at least in some taxa, has changed little since that time. Their Phylogenetics, phylogenetic position within the Arachnida is disputed; their closest relatives may be camel spiders (Solifugae ...

Their first pair of legs is roughly 6.5 times the length of the body. Distribution ''A. atlanta'' can be found in all tropical regions, such as the Seychelles, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Brazil. It can be found on every continent (apart from Antarctica). It has been introduced into Belgium (Antwerp), and North America, where (as of 2009) colonies can be found in southern Arizona and southeastern California in the United States The United States of America (USA), also known as the United States (U.S.) or America, is a country primarily located in North America.
