Philippine National Games
The Philippine National Games officially known as the POC- PSC Games is a national multi-sport tournament in the Philippines. It was created as a means to determine the possible composition of national pool athletes that will compete in international tournaments such as the Southeast Asian Games, Asian Games and the Olympics. History The Philippine National Games was created by virtue of Executive Order No. 163 dated March 3, 1994, during the term of 12th President Fidel V. Ramos. The first edition was held in Manila in 1994, then the next edition was held two years later in the same venue. Cebu City hosted the third edition in 1997. However, the games were scrapped in 1998 due to lack of funds to organize the event. The holding of games were halted until its revival in 2011. Since then the games were held annually. Multi-sport Event
A multi-sport event is an organized sporting event, often held over multiple days, featuring competition in many different sports among organized teams of athletes from (mostly) nation-states. The first major, modern, multi-sport event of international significance was the Olympic Games, first held in modern times in 1896 in Athens, Greece, and inspired by the Ancient Olympic Games, one of a number of such events held in antiquity. Palarong Pambansa
The Palarong Pambansa ( Filipino for "National Games") is an annual multi-sport event involving student-athletes from the different regions of the Philippines. The event which was known as the BPISAA Games from its inception in 1948 until 1973, is organized and governed by the Department of Education. Student-athletes from public and private schools at elementary and secondary levels can compete, provided they qualified by winning at their regional meet. For young Filipino student-athletes, Palarong Pambansa is the culmination of school sports competition, which start with local school intramurals, followed by the congressional district, provincial, and regional athletic meets.
