Perth Lynx
The Perth Lynx are an Australian professional basketball team based in Perth, Western Australia. The Lynx compete in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) and play their home games at both WA Basketball Centre, Bendat Basketball Centre and Perth High Performance Centre. For sponsorship reasons, they are known as the Northern Star Resources Perth Lynx. The Lynx were established in 1988 as the Perth Breakers. After being owned and operated by Basketball Western Australia from 2001 to 2015, the Perth Wildcats took over ownership and operation of the team for a period of five years. In 2020, the licence was transferred back to Basketball Western Australia. In 2024, the licence was transferred to Sports Entertainment Group's sporting teams business, SEN Teams. The Lynx have reached six WNBL Grand Finals, winning their only List of WNBL champions, championship in 1992. The Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) is a professional women's basketball list of basketball leagues, league in Australia composed of eight teams. The league was founded in 1981 and is the Women's sports, women's counterpart to the National Basketball League (Australia), National Basketball League (NBL). History Founding of the WNBL In August 1980, West Adelaide Bearcat Coach Ted Owens (basketball), Ted Powell, after an encouraging exchange of letters with St Kilda'Coach Bill Palmer called a meeting at the Governor Hindmarsh Hotel in Adelaide. In attendance were Ted, North Adelaide Coach Kay McFarlane and Noarlunga Coach Brendan Flynn. Sue Harcus
Susan Harcus (born 11 December 1954) is an Australian former basketball player and coach. Biography Harcus played for the Australia women's national basketball team during the 1970s and competed for Australia at the 1975 World Championship held in Colombia. Harcus left Perth at 16 years old to play basketball in Adelaide, where the competition was stronger. 1989 Australian Pilots' Dispute
The 1989 Australian pilots' dispute was one of the most expensive and dramatic industrial disputes in Australia's history. It was co-ordinated by the Australian Federation of Air Pilots (AFAP) after a prolonged period of wage suppression, to support its campaign for a 29.5% pay increase. The dispute began impacting the public on 18 August 1989 with pilots working "9-5" and was never formally resolved due to the mass resignation of pilots, cancellation of their award and de-recognition of their union. As part of this campaign, AFAP pilots imposed on their employers (Ansett Australia, East-West, Ipec and Australian Airlines) a limitation on the hours they were prepared to work, arguing that if they were to be treated in exactly the same way as other employee groups (the stance adopted by the government), their work conditions should also be the same. North Adelaide Rockets is a NBL1 Central club based in Adelaide, South Australia. The club fields both a men's and women's team. The club is a division of the overarching North Adelaide Basketball Club (NABC), the major administrative basketball organisation in the region. Cheryl Kickett-Tucker
Cheryl Kickett-Tucker (born ) is an Australian professor, author and renowned Indigenous leader. She is also a former basketball player. She is a research fellow at Curtin University in Western Australia, in the fields of Australian Aboriginal identity and self-esteem. She is involved in several Aboriginal community development programs, primarily for younger people. Early life Kickett-Tucker was born in the Perth suburb of Subiaco, the fifth of eight children, and spent her early childhood years in Lockridge. Her parents divorced when she was ten years old, and she moved with her mother and siblings to Midland. She attended Governor Stirling Senior High School. Tanya Fisher
Tanya Fisher is an Australian former basketball player. Career WNBL Fisher was a member of the WAIS Rockets in 1987 when the team won the Women's Basketball Conference (WBC). The Perth Breakers subsequently entered the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) in 1988. With Perth, she averaged 1.0 blocked shots per game in 1990 and 1.1 blocked shots per game in 1991; she also had a .519 field goal percentage (69/113) in 1991. In 1992, she helped the Breakers win the WNBL championship while earning grand final MVP honours. Following the 1993 WNBL season, Fisher had a two-year break before playing again in 1996 and 1997. Knox Raiders is a NBL1 South club based in Melbourne, Victoria. The club fields a team in both the Men's and Women's NBL1 South.
