Persatuan Sepakbola Indonesia Jepara, also known as Persijap is an Indonesian professional Association football, football club based in Jepara Regency, Jepara, Central Java. They are set to compete in the Liga 1 (Indonesia), Liga 1 from the 2025–26 Liga 1 (Indonesia), 2025–26 season, the top tier of Indonesian football after promotion from Liga 2 (Indonesia), Liga 2 in 2024–25. Their nickname is ''Laskar Kalinyamat'' (Kalinyamat Sultanate, Kalinyamat Warriors) and ''Elang Java Sea, Laut Jawa'' (Java Sea White-bellied sea eagle, Eagles). History Foundation and early years (1954–1994) Persijap was founded on 11 April 1954. Syahlan Ridwan, Jepara's Regent, founded the club. They have contributed players to the Indonesia national football team since 1979 when Haryanto was the first choice goalkeeper (association football), goalkeeper of the national team. Kalinyamat Sultanate
Kalinyamat Sultanate or Sultanate of Jepara, was a 16th-century Javanese Islamic polity in the northern part of the island of Java, centred in modern-day Jepara, Central Java, Indonesia. Both Jepara and Kalinyamat were first established as Duchy settlements under the Demak Sultanate. After a succession feud, Kalinyamat was declared as a separate polity from Demak. Traditional accounts provide the names of several of its leaders; Sultan Hadlirin, and his wife and also successor, Ratna Kencana ( Ratu Kalinyamat) (r. 1549–1579). History Formation The settlements in Kalinyamat and the port of Jepara were established as a ''kadipaten'' or duchy under the Demak Sultanate. The daughter of Sultan Trenggana of Demak, Ratna Kencana, and her husband, Sultan Hadlirin, was appointed as the duke and duchess of Kalinyamat by Demak Sultan.
