Pedaliaceae
Pedaliaceae, the pedalium family or sesame family, is a flowering plant family classified in the order (biology), order Lamiales. The family includes sesame (''Sesamum indicum''), the source of sesame seeds. It comprises 13 genera and approximately 70 species. Eight genera are native to the African continent and one genus (''Uncarina'') is endemic to Madagascar. Four genera (''Sesamum'', ''Josephinia'', ''Pedalium'' and ''Dicerocaryum'') are mainly African natives but they also include regions to the east (including Madagascar, India, Sri Lanka, Malayan Islands and northern Australia).Ib Friis and Olof Ryding (Editors) The family has a diverse range of seed and fruit dispersal throughout the various species. Including; animal dispersal via burrs, carried by feet (in ''Dicerocaryum'', ''Harpagophytum'' and ''Josephinia'') or caught in the fur of passing animals (''Uncarina''), winged fruits using the wind for dispersal (''Holubia'' and ''Pterodiscus''), or even winged seeds ( ...

An upright, annual plant, annual, biennial plant, biennial, or perennial plant, perennial, It grows up to tall, with slightly fleshy, square stem and spreading branches. It has opposite leaves, which are also fleshy, circular to ovate shaped. They are Petiole (botany), petiolate (leaf stalk is long), and spinach-green in colour. They can be up to long, with the petiole reaching long. It blooms from summer to autumn, with large, solitary flowers in shades of yellow-green, yellow, cream or white. They have an unpleasant smell. Rogeria (plant)
''Rogeria'' is a genus of plants in the Pedaliaceae family consisting of several species, with a native range extending from the island of Cape Verde to Eritrea, Namibia to the Cape Provinces (of South Africa). It is found in the countries of Angola, Burkina, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Chad, Eritrea, Mali, Mauritania, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sudan and South Africa. It was also thought to be found in Brazil as well as Africa,Thomas Moore but this seems to be a mix-up with another shrub species. Some species such as ''Rogeria longiflora'' are medicinal plants. General description ''Rogeria'' species bear long, tubular flowers but with very woody armoured capsules and flattened seeds. It is a varied genus, it does not have solitary flowers (similar to '' Uncarina'' species) and with the common denominator that in the difference in the size of the carpels and the indehiscence (splitting of the seed capsule) of the adaxial carpel.Joachim W. Uncarina
''Uncarina'' is a genus of semi-Succulent plant, succulent Flowering plant, flowering plants in the Pedaliaceae (the sesame family) found in Madagascar. As most species within the genus are inhabitants of dry, semi-arid or seasonally-dry regions, many mature into water-storing Pachycaul, pachycauls, or "caudiciformes"—a common colloquial term to describe plants that normally inhabit drier climates and develop a large, woody base, or "foot", known as a caudex. In these species, a plant's lower half gradually accumulates and stores water (similarly to a camel's hump); over time, the caudex changes shape, swelling to an often impressive size, as it adds to its own moisture "reservoir" for future periods of drought. In addition to ''Uncarina'', many other caudex-forming Genus, genera can be found on Madagascar as well as beyond, such as ''Adenium obesum, Adenium'', ''Beaucarnea'', Dioscorea elephantipes, ''Dioscorea'', ''Euphorbia'', ''Gerrardanthus'', ''Pachypodium'' and ''Stephani ...

Sesamum Indicum
Sesame (; ''Sesamum indicum'') is a plant in the genus ''Sesamum'', also called benne. Numerous wild relatives occur in Africa and a smaller number in India. It is widely naturalization (biology) , naturalized in tropical regions around the world and is cultivated for its edible seeds, which grow in pods. World production in 2018 was , with Sudan, Myanmar, and India as the largest producers. Sesame seed is one of the oldest oilseed crops known, domesticated well over 3,000 years ago. ''Sesamum'' has many other species, most being wild and native to sub-Saharan Africa. ''S. indicum,'' the cultivated type, originated in India. It tolerates drought conditions well, growing where other crops fail. Sesame has one of the highest oil contents of any seed. With a rich, nutty flavor, it is a common ingredient in cuisines around the world. Like other foods, it can trigger allergy , allergic reactions in some people and is one of the nine most common allergens outlined by the Food and Drug ...

Sesamum
''Sesamum'' is a genus of about 20 species in the flowering plant family Pedaliaceae. The plants are annual or perennial herbs with edible seeds. The best-known member of the genus is sesame, ''Sesamum indicum'' (syn. ''Sesamum orientale''), the source of sesame seeds. The species are primarily African, with some species occurring in India, Sri Lanka, and China. The origin of ''S. indicum'' is uncertain, as it is widely cultivated and naturalized in tropical regions. The genus is closely related to the strictly African genus '' Ceratotheca'' and is itself probably African in origin.
