Paul McCartney and Wings, often billed simply as Wings, was a British-American Rock music, rock band formed in 1971 in London by former The Beatles, Beatle Paul McCartney; his wife Linda McCartney on keyboards; session drummer Denny Seiwell; and former Moody Blues guitarist Denny Laine. They were noted for their commercial successes, musical eclecticism, and frequent personnel changes. They went through three lead guitarists and four drummers. The core trio of the McCartneys and Laine, however, remained intact throughout the group's existence. Created following the McCartneys' 1971 album ''Ram (album), Ram'', the band's first two albums, ''Wild Life (Wings album), Wild Life'' (1971) and ''Red Rose Speedway'' (1973) (the latter featuring guitarist Henry McCullough), were viewed as artistic disappointments beside Paul's work with the Beatles. Joe English (musician)
Joe English (born July 2, 1949) is an American musician, vocalist and songwriter who, during the 1970s, played drums in Paul McCartney's band Wings and in the rock band Sea Level, among others. Biography Born on July 2, 1949, in Rochester, New York, Joe English was a member of the band Jam Factory, a group based in Syracuse, that evolved into the Tall Dogs Orchestra of Macon, Georgia. Searching for an opportunity to expand his talent, he answered an ad for a drummer in early 1975. The address led him to the basement of an old building where, much to his surprise, he found himself face to face with Paul McCartney. The audition was for McCartney's Wings, and English got the job. His first album with Wings was '' Venus and Mars'' and, one album later, he would even take the lead vocals for the song, " Must Do Something About It" from '' Wings at the Speed of Sound''. "Listen to What the Man Said" is a hit single from Wings' 1975 album '' Venus and Mars''. The song featured new member Joe English on drums, with guest musicians Dave Mason on guitar and Tom Scott on soprano saxophone. ''Venus and Mars'' is the fourth studio album by the British–American rock band Wings. Released in May 1975 as the follow-up to '' Band on the Run'', ''Venus and Mars'' continued Wings' run of commercial success and provided a springboard for a year-long worldwide tour. The album was Paul McCartney's first post-Beatles album to be released worldwide by Capitol Records rather than Apple.
