Parliamentary Constituencies In London (historic)
The Regions of England, region of Greater London, including the City of London, is divided into 75 United Kingdom constituencies, parliamentary constituencies all of which are sub-classified as borough constituencies, affecting the type of electoral officer and level of expenses permitted. Since the 2024 United Kingdom general election, general election of July 2024, 59 are represented by Labour Party (UK), Labour MPs, 9 by Conservative Party (UK), Conservative MPs, 6 by Liberal Democrats (UK), Liberal Democrat MPs, and 1 by an independent MP. Current constituencies Boundary changes Following the abandonment of the 2013 periodic review of Westminster constituencies, Sixth Periodic Review (the 2018 review), the Boundary Commission for England formally launched the 2023 Review on 5 January 2021. Regions Of England
The regions of England, formerly known as the government office regions, are the highest tier of sub-national division in England. They were established in 1994 and follow the 1974–96 county borders. They are a continuation of the former 1940s Historical and alternative regions of England#Standard statistical regions, standard regions which followed the 1889–1974 administrative county borders. Between 1994 and 2011, all nine regions had partly devolved functions; they no longer fulfil this role, continuing to be used for limited statistical purposes. While the UK was a member of the European Union, they defined areas (European Parliament constituencies in the United Kingdom, constituencies) for the purposes of elections to the European Parliament. Beckenham And Penge
Beckenham and Penge is a constituency of the House of Commons in the UK Parliament. Further to the completion of the 2023 review of Westminster constituencies, it was first contested in the 2024 general election, since when it has been represented by Liam Conlon of the Labour Party. It returns one Member of Parliament (United Kingdom), Member of Parliament (MP) to the House of Commons of the United Kingdom, House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, elected by the first past the post system. Bexleyheath is a town in southeast London, England, in the London Borough of Bexley. It had a population of approximately 15,600 in 2021 and is southeast of Charing Cross. It is identified in the London Plan as one of 35 major centres in London. Its post town takes in other surrounding neighbourhoods, including Barnehurst, West Heath and Upton. History For most of its history, Bexley heath was heath land. The Romans built a road through the heath, Watling Street, which connected Londinium (London) to Dubris (Dover). Daniel Francis (politician)
Daniel Francis is a British Labour Party politician who has been MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford since 2024. He served on Bexley Council as the councillor for the Belvedere ward from 2000 to 2010, and 2014 to 2024. Career Belvedere Councillor The Belvedere ward of the London Borough of Bexley held a councillor by-election in September 2000 due to a resignation, where Francis was elected with 55% of the vote. He won re-election in the subsequent 2002 and 2006 elections. During the 2010 council election, he instead ran for the Northumberland Heath ward where he lost. Returning to Belvedere ward, he successfully ran in the 2014, 2018, and 2022 elections. Francis was the Cabinet Member for Transport and successfully fought for the extension of the Elizabeth line to Abbey Wood, and saved Welling to Victoria train services. Ajmal Masroor (; born 19 October 1971) is a Bangladeshi-born British imam, broadcaster and political activist. He is known for being a television presenter on political discussions and on Muslim channels. Early life Masroor was born in Sylhet District, Bangladesh and came to Britain at the age of one when his parents immigrated from the country. He moved back to Bangladesh a few years later, aged seven, due to his father's concerns about different cultures, and the possibility of losing their Muslim identities. Rushanara Ali (; born 14 March 1975) is a British politician who has served as a Member of Parliament (MP) since 2010 and as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Homelessness and Rough Sleeping since July 2024. Neil Coyle
Neil Alan John Coyle (born 30 December 1978) is a British Labour politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bermondsey and Old Southwark since 2015. Coyle has at times been the subject of debate during his time in parliament, after being accused of being abusive to constituents, racist to journalists, and guilty of bullying Labour parliamentary staff. He has apologised for his conduct and been open about his battle with alcoholism. Coyle was suspended by Labour and banned from Parliament's bars for six months.
