Pantera Members
Pantera () is an American heavy metal band formed in Arlington, Texas in 1981 by the Abbott brothers (guitarist Dimebag Darrell and drummer Vinnie Paul), and currently composed of vocalist Phil Anselmo, bassist Rex Brown, and touring musicians Zakk Wylde and Charlie Benante. The group's best-known lineup consisted of the Abbott brothers along with Brown and Anselmo, who joined in 1982 and 1986, respectively. The band is credited for developing and popularizing the subgenre of groove metal in the 1990s. Regarded as one of the most successful and influential bands in heavy metal history, Pantera has sold around 20 million records worldwide and has received four Grammy nominations. Having started as a glam metal band, Pantera released three albums in the mid-1980s with lead vocalist Terry Glaze (''Metal Magic'', ''Projects in the Jungle'', and '' I Am the Night''), with little success. Looking for a new and heavier sound, Pantera recruited Anselmo in 1986 and released ''Power Met ...

Dimebag Darrell
Darrell Lance Abbott (August 20, 1966 – December 8, 2004), known professionally as Dimebag Darrell, was an American musician. He was the guitarist of the heavy metal music, heavy metal bands Pantera and Damageplan, both of which he co-founded alongside his brother Vinnie Paul. He is considered by many to be one of the greatest metal guitarists of all time. A son of country music producer Jerry Abbott, Abbott began playing guitar at age 12, and Pantera released its debut album, ''Metal Magic'' (1983), when he was 16. Originally a glam metal musician, Abbott went by the stage name Diamond Darrell at the time. Two further albums in the glam metal style followed with ''Projects in the Jungle'' (1984) and ''I Am the Night (album), I Am the Night'' (1985), before original vocalist Terry Glaze was replaced by Phil Anselmo in 1986 and ''Power Metal (album), Power Metal'' (1988) was released. Elektra Records
Elektra Records (or Elektra Entertainment) is an American record label owned by Warner Music Group, founded in 1950 by Jac Holzman and Paul Rickolt. It played an important role in the development of contemporary folk and rock music between the 1950s and 1970s. In 2004, it was consolidated into WMG's Atlantic Records Group. After five years of dormancy, the label was revived as an imprint of Atlantic in 2009. In October 2018, Elektra was detached from the Atlantic Records umbrella and reorganized into Elektra Music Group, once again operating as an independently managed frontline label of Warner Music. In June 2022, Elektra Music Group was merged with 300 Entertainment to create the umbrella label 300 Elektra Entertainment (3EE), though both Elektra and 300 continued to maintain their separate identities as labels. In Oct 2024, 300 Elektra Entertainment merged with Atlantic Records, though still retaining imprints on releases. History 1950–1971: Founding and early history Elek ...

In the early 1990s, as compact discs (CDs) replaced LP record, LPs and cassette (format), cassettes as the dominant format for recorded music, Erlewine purchased what he thought was a CD of early recordings by Little Richard. After buying it, he discovered it was a "flaccid latter-day rehash". Frustrated with the labeling, he res ...

Power Metal (album)
''Power Metal'' is the fourth studio album by American heavy metal band Pantera, released on June 24, 1988, through Metal Magic Records. It is the first Pantera album to feature Phil Anselmo on lead vocals, completing Pantera's best-known lineup that would last until the band's breakup in 2003. The album signals a shift in a heavier direction and has been described as a "bridge" between the band's original glam metal style and the heavier groove metal sound of their subsequent work. It contains influences from speed and thrash metal while still retaining elements from the band's previous releases. The album's sound, particularly in Anselmo's vocal performance, has been compared to that of Judas Priest. Background In August 1985, Pantera released ''I Am the Night'', the last album with Terry Glaze on vocals. However, in June 1986, tensions arose between Glaze and the band members. He was given a two-week notice, which they hoped would resolve the tension, but left the grou ...

Projects In The Jungle
''Projects in the Jungle'' is the second studio album by American heavy metal band Pantera, released on July 27, 1984, through Metal Magic Records. The band would make their first music video for the track "All Over Tonight". Though sharing many similarities with Def Leppard's pre-''Hysteria'' sound (''Pyromania'' had been released the year before), the album also contains influences from bands like Judas Priest and in addition to Van Halen-inspired guitar solos features many speed metal-oriented guitar riffs. Reception In a retrospective review for AllMusic, Eduardo Rivadavia described Terry Glaze's vocal style as "ear assaulting" and the lyrics as "frequently moronic" examples of glam metal cliches of the era. Nonetheless, ''Projects in the Jungle'' was "a major improvement over the band's tentative performance on debut album '' Metal Magic'', and its much improved production clarity and musicianship spoke volumes of Pantera's growing professionalism and maturity." ''Metal ...

Metal Magic
''Metal Magic'' is the debut studio album by American heavy metal band Pantera, released on June 10, 1983, by Metal Magic Records. Like the band's next three releases, it is musically oriented toward a glam/heavy metal sound influenced by Kiss and Van Halen, rather than the groove metal style they became famous for playing in the 1990s. The album was released on the band's own label (also called Metal Magic) and produced by Jerry Abbott (under the alias "The Eld'n"), a country music songwriter and producer and the father of Vinnie Paul and Dimebag Darrell (then known as Diamond Darrell), who were 19 and 16 years old, respectively, at the time of release. Background Pantera was formed in Arlington, Texas, in 1981. The band was originally named Gemini, then Eternity, before finally settling on Pantera. Reception In a retrospective review for AllMusic, Eduardo Rivadavia gave ''Metal Magic'' a largely negative ranking of 1.5 stars out of a possible 5. He described the album ...

Groove Metal
Groove metal, sometimes also called neo-thrash or post-thrash, is a subgenre of heavy metal music that began in the early 1990s. The genre is primarily derived from thrash metal, but played in slower tempos, and making use of rhythmic guitar parts. It was pioneered in the late 1980s by groups like Exhorder, Prong and Bad Brains, and then popularized by the commercial success of Pantera, White Zombie, Machine Head and Sepultura. The genre went on to be influential in the development of the new wave of American heavy metal, nu metal and metalcore, and continued to gain traction in the 2000s with Lamb of God, DevilDriver and Five Finger Death Punch, and 2010s with Killer Be Killed and Bad Wolves. Characteristics Groove metal makes use of elements of thrash metal, but plays them in a slower tempo, making use of bouncy, unconventional rhythms. ''Loudwire'' stated that "Unlike so many other styles of metal, groove metal is one that doesn't have rigid boundaries and incorporates ...
