The Ottawa Senators are a professional ice hockey team based in Ottawa. The team is a member of the Atlantic Division (NHL), Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference (NHL), Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Senators were granted a franchise in 1990. The team participated in the 1992 NHL expansion draft and the 1992 NHL entry draft and began play in the 1992–93 NHL season, 1992–93 season. Ottawa Senators
The Ottawa Senators (), officially the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club and colloquially known as the Sens, are a professional ice hockey team based in Ottawa. The Senators compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Atlantic Division in the Eastern Conference. The team plays its home games at the 18,652-seat Canadian Tire Centre, which opened in 1996. Founded and established by Ottawa real estate developer Bruce Firestone, the team is the second NHL franchise to use the Ottawa Senators name. The original Ottawa Senators, founded in 1883, won the Stanley Cup 11 times, playing in the NHL from 1917 until 1934. 2006–07 NHL Season
The 2006–07 NHL season was the 90th season of operation (89th season of play) of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim officially shortened their name to the Anaheim Ducks prior to the season. The 2007 Stanley Cup playoffs began on April 11, 2007, and concluded on June 6, with the no-longer-Mighty Ducks defeating the Ottawa Senators to win their first Stanley Cup, becoming the first team from California to do so. 1994–95 Ottawa Senators Season
The 1994–95 Ottawa Senators season was the third season of the National Hockey League (NHL) club, was cut short due to the NHL lockout, which postponed the start of the season until late January, and teams only played 48 games that season. This was also the team's final full season at the Ottawa Civic Centre before moving to the Palladium the following season. Regular season Alexei Yashin once again proved to be the Senators leader on the ice, scoring 21 goals, along with 23 assists for a team leading 44 points. Alexandre Daigle had another strong season also, putting up 37 points (16 goals, 21 assists) to finish second to Yashin in team scoring. 1994–95 NHL Season
The 1994–95 NHL season was the 78th regular season of the National Hockey League. The season start was delayed due to a lockout of players imposed by the NHL franchise owners. After a new labour agreement was reached between the owners and the National Hockey League Players' Association (NHLPA), a 48-game season started on January 20. The season ended when the New Jersey Devils swept the heavily favored Detroit Red Wings for their first Stanley Cup win. It was also their first appearance in the finals overall. Northeast Division (NHL)
The National Hockey League's Northeast Division was formed in 1993 as part of the Eastern Conference (NHL), Eastern Conference in a league realignment. Its predecessor was the Adams Division. The Northeast Division lasted for 19 seasons (not including the cancelled 2004–05 NHL season, 2004–05 season) until the 2013 league realignment, when all five of its teams were placed into the new Atlantic Division (NHL), Atlantic Division. 1993–94 Ottawa Senators Season
The 1993–94 Ottawa Senators season was the National Hockey League (NHL) club's second season. It was an improvement by the club, as they finished with 13 more points than in the 1992–93 expansion season, as the club ended the season with a 14–61–9 record for 37 points. Even so, they had the worst record in hockey for the second consecutive year. Off-season On April 15, 1993, one day after the end of the 1992–93 season, general manager Mel Bridgman was fired. Randy Sexton became the general manager. Sexton would select Alexandre Daigle first overall in the 1993 NHL entry draft. On May 12, head coach Rick Bowness' contract was extended by three years. 1993–94 NHL Season
The 1993–94 NHL season was the 77th regular season of the National Hockey League. The league expanded to 26 teams with the addition of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and the Florida Panthers. The Minnesota North Stars relocated to become the Dallas Stars. And the league was realigned to geographically-named conferences and divisions. The New York Rangers defeated the Vancouver Canucks in seven games to become the Stanley Cup champions. It was the Rangers' fourth championship overall, and their first in 54 seasons, since 1939–40. The spectacular play of Dominik Hasek of the Buffalo Sabres ushered in a new era of goaltending dominance in the NHL. Only three teams reached the 300-goal plateau, and only one team, the Detroit Red Wings, averaged more than four goals scored per game. Adams Division
The National Hockey League's Adams Division was formed in 1974 as part of the Prince of Wales Conference. The division existed for 19 seasons until 1993. It was named in honour of Charles Francis Adams, the founder of the Boston Bruins. It is the forerunner of the NHL's Northeast Division, which later became the Atlantic Division. 1992–93 Ottawa Senators Season
The 1992–93 Ottawa Senators season was the first season of the modern Ottawa Senators franchise in the National Hockey League (NHL). Despite winning the first game of the regular season on October 8, 1992, the Senators won only nine more en route to their worst season ever. The team recorded three NHL records that season: the longest home losing streak of eleven, from October 27 to December 8; the longest road losing streak with a total of 39, from October 10 to April 3 (nearly the whole season) and fewest road wins in a season, with just one victory. Season Structure Of The NHL
The season structure of the National Hockey League (NHL) is divided into the pre-season, regular season, and the Stanley Cup playoffs. In the pre-season, which is generally held during the last two weeks of September, each team plays several not-for-the-record exhibition games. In the regular season, which generally runs from early October through early April, teams play 82 games which determine their standings.
