Oste Basin
Oste () is a river in northern Lower Saxony, Germany with a length of . It is a left tributary of the Elbe. The Oste flows through the Harburg (district), districts of Harburg, Rotenburg (district), Rotenburg, Stade (district), Stade and Cuxhaven (district), Cuxhaven and empties into the Elbe river near Otterndorf. Its drainage area is and the decline between the source and the estuary is . Tributaries are Ramme (river), Ramme, Aue (Oste), Aue, Twiste (Oste), Twiste, Bade, Bever (Oste), Bever and Mehe. The Oste is part of the Deutsche Fährstraße, an institution similar to the American National Scenic Byways. It connects various places between Bremervörde and Kiel with relation to the history of ferry, ferries and crossing of rivers, like the historic transporter bridges in Rendsburg and Osten. Elbe

Kiel
Kiel ( ; ) is the capital and most populous city in the northern Germany, German state of Schleswig-Holstein. With a population of around 250,000, it is Germany's largest city on the Baltic Sea. Neuhaus (Oste)
Neuhaus an der Oste (in High German, in Low Saxon: Neehuus) is a municipality in the district of Cuxhaven, in Lower Saxony, Germany. History The area of today's Neuhaus belonged to the Prince-Archbishopric of Bremen, established in 1180. In 1371 Prince-Archbishop Albert II's bailiff in Vörde erected the fortress ''Slikborch'' near today's Neuhaus at the mouth of the river Aue into the Oste, shortly before it empties into the Elbe, as a stronghold to wield power over the Land of Kehdingen and to gain a stake in the neighbouring Saxe-Lauenburgian exclave Land of Hadeln. In 1387 the ''free peasants'' from Hadeln and Kehdingen demolished the fortress ''Slikborch'' as a threat to their autonomy. In 1404 Prince-Archbishop Otto II erected a new fortress on the right bank of the Aue, then named "dat Nygehus" (''the new house''), becoming the eponym for the place. Hemmoor
Hemmoor () is a small town in the district of Cuxhaven, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is situated near the river Oste, approx. 40 km northeast of Bremerhaven, and 25 km south of Brunsbüttel. History Hemmoor belonged to the Prince-Archbishopric of Bremen, established in 1180. In 1648 the Prince-Archbishopric was transformed into the Duchy of Bremen, which was first ruled in personal union by the Swedish Crown—interrupted by a Danish occupation (1712–1715)—and from 1715 on by the Hanoverian Crown. In 1807 the ephemeric Kingdom of Westphalia annexed the Duchy, before France annexed it in 1810. In 1813 the Duchy was restored to the Electorate of Hanover, which—after its upgrade to the Kingdom of Hanover in 1814—incorporated the Duchy in a real union and the Ducal territory, including Hemmoor, became part of the new Stade Region, established in 1823. Zeven
Zeven () is a town in the district of Rotenburg, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It has a population of around 14,000. The nearest large towns are Bremerhaven, Bremen and Hamburg. It is situated approximately 22 km northwest of Rotenburg, and 40 km northeast of Bremen. Zeven is also the seat of the ''Samtgemeinde'' ("collective municipality") Zeven. Lüneburg Heath
Lüneburg Heath (, ) is a large area of heath (habitat), heath, geest, and woodland in the northeastern part of the state of Lower Saxony in northern Germany. It forms part of the hinterland for the cities of Hamburg, Hanover and Bremen and is named after the town of Lüneburg. Most of the area is a nature reserve (Germany), nature reserve. Northern Low Saxon is still widely spoken in the region. Lüneburg Heath has extensive areas, and the most yellow of heath (habitat), heathland, typical of those that covered most of the North German countryside until about 1800, but which have almost completely disappeared in other areas. The heaths were formed after the Neolithic period by overgrazing of the once widespread forests on the poor sandy soils of the geest, as this slightly hilly and sandy terrain in northern Europe is called. Tostedt (Low German ''Töst'') is a municipality in the district of Harburg, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is the central administration of the collective municipality (Samtgemeinde Tostedt) which consists of 9 joint communities. Brobergen
Brobergen (Low German, Low Saxon: ''Brobargen'') is a village in the German municipality of Kranenburg, Lower Saxony, Kranenburg in the district of Stade (district), Stade, Lower Saxony. The village of 6.06 km² has 220 inhabitants (July 1, 2011). The village lies on the right (eastern) bank of the Oste river. The river Mehe, a tributary of the Oste, has its estuary near Brobergen.
