Norwich City Football Club is a professional football club based in Norwich, Norfolk, England. The club competes in the Championship, the second tier of English football. The club was founded in 1902. Since 1935, Norwich have played their home games at Carrow Road and have a long-standing rivalry with East Anglian rivals Ipswich Town, with whom they have contested the East Anglian derby since 1902. Norwich have won the League Cup twice, in 1962 and 1985. The club's highest-ever league finish came in the 1992–93 season when they finished third in the Premier League. Carrow Road
Carrow Road is a association football, football stadium in Norwich, Norfolk, England, and is the home of EFL Championship club Norwich City F.C., Norwich City. The stadium is east of the city, near Norwich railway station and the River Wensum. Norwich City originally played at Newmarket Road (football ground), Newmarket Road before moving to The Nest (football ground), The Nest. When The Nest was deemed inadequate for the size of crowds it was attracting, the Carrow Road ground, named after the road on which it is located, was purpose-built by Norwich City in just 82 days and opened on 31 August 1935. The stadium has been altered and upgraded several times during its history, notably following a fire that destroyed the old City Stand in 1984. The Football League
The English Football League (EFL) is a league of professional football clubs from England and Wales. Founded in 1888 as the Football League, it is the oldest football league in the world, and was the top-level football league in England from its foundation until 1992, when the top 22 clubs split from it to form the Premier League. Geoffrey Watling
Geoffrey Watling (2 April 1913 – 16 November 2004) was a president and chairman of Norwich City (1957–1973 and 1996). Life Watling was born in Norwich, Norfolk on 2 April 1913, and educated locally at the King Edward VI School and the Paston Grammar School at North Walsham. He joined his father Charles in the family business C Watling carriers, eventually taking it over and converting it from horse transport to motor vehicles. Meanwhile, the family had become part of the Norwich establishment: Charles served as Sheriff and Lord Mayor of Norwich. Geoffrey diversified into over 200 businesses, including ballrooms, taxi services, funeral homes and a chalet park. In 1941 he married his wife Pearl: their daughter Carol was born in 1947. He was a keen amateur footballer, tennis player and boatman. Watling became Chairman of Norwich City Football Club in 1957, and President for life in 1986. Southern Football League
The Southern League is a football competition featuring semi-professional clubs from East Anglia, the South and Midlands of England, and South Wales. Together with the Isthmian League and the Northern Premier League it forms levels seven and eight of the English football league system. Newmarket Road was the home ground for Norwich City, before they moved to The Nest. Today, the club plays at Carrow Road, which has been their home ground since 1935.
