North Florida Ospreys
The North Florida Ospreys are the athletic teams of the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida. The Ospreys compete in the ASUN Conference in NCAA Division I. UNF became a full-fledged member of Division I in 2009; previously, the Ospreys were members of the Sunshine State Conference and Peach Belt Conference in NCAA Division II. UNF fields teams in seven men's sports and ten women's sports. History The University of North Florida's intercollegiate athletics program began in 1983, originally as a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). The College World Series (CWS), officially the NCAA Men's College World Series (MCWS), is a baseball tournament held each June in Omaha, Nebraska. Dusty Rhodes (baseball Coach)
Jack Dusty Rhodes (born 1946) is a retired American baseball coach and the former head coach of the University of North Florida. Over his more than 30-year college coaching career, he won more than 1,000 games and coached nearly two dozen Major League players. In January 2009, he was inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame and was a recipient of the ABCA's Lefty Gomez Award. Early life Rhodes was born in Talladega, Alabama, and moved to West Palm Beach, Florida, when he was six years old. His father, Jack Burton Rhodes, a World War II veteran, was a cabinet maker for sportfishing yachts and his mother, Florence Miller Rhodes, was employed as a secretary for the ''Palm Beach Post''. Dusty Rhodes Field at Harmon Stadium, generally known as Harmon Stadium, is the baseball stadium at the University of North Florida (UNF), and the home field of the North Florida Ospreys baseball team. It is located on the university's campus in Jacksonville, Florida, near the softball complex and aquatic center. It opened in 1988 and has a seating capacity of 1,250. The North Florida Ospreys women's basketball team represent the University of North Florida (UNF) in women's college basketball. The Ospreys compete in the ASUN Conference (Atlantic Sun) in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). History North Florida began play in 1992. As of the end of the 2015–16 season, the Ospreys have an all-time record of 319–373. They have never made the Division I Tournament, but they made the Division II Tournament in 2003 and 2004.
