Nissewaard () is a List of municipalities of the Netherlands, municipality in the Netherlands, located on the island of Voorne-Putten, in the south of the province of South Holland. It was created through a merger of the municipalities of Spijkenisse and Bernisse on 1 January 2015. Nissewaard has a population of about 85,000 as of 2014. Voorne-Putten
Voorne-Putten () is an island between the North Sea, the Brielse Meer and the rivers Oude Maas, Spui and Haringvliet in the province of South Holland. Voorne-Putten consists of the two former islands Voorne (the larger, western part) and Putten (the smaller, eastern part). It used to be separated by the river Bernisse which silted up, uniting the two islands. It has 160,000 inhabitants (2008). Recently the riverbed has been dredged, and the two islands have been reformed. The North Sea coast of Voorne is a valuable nature reserve (sand dunes), even though the northern part of the area has lost much of its estuarine character with the building of the Maasvlakte, an extension of the Port of Rotterdam, in the 1960s.M.J. van der Maarel & E. Spijkenisse
Spijkenisse () is a large town in the Provinces of the Netherlands, province of South Holland, Netherlands. Following an administrative reform in 2015, it is part of the List of municipalities of the Netherlands, municipality of Nissewaard, and has a population of 72,500. It covers an area of of which is water. It is part of the Rijnmond, Greater Rotterdam area. History Archaeological evidence suggests that the area around Spijkenisse has been inhabited for several thousand years. The area's prehistoric inhabitants depended on fishing in the Maas and hunting in the surrounding swamps for sustenance. The oldest known reference to the name ''Spickenisse'' is in a source from 1231. Spijkenisse is a portmanteau of the words ' (Spit (landform), spit) and ''nesse'' (nose) meaning "pointy nose." Geervliet is a town in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Nissewaard, and lies about northwest of Spijkenisse on the Brielse Meer. Heenvliet is a town in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Nissewaard, and lies about 7 km south of Maassluis, on the Brielse Maas. Heenvliet was a separate municipality until 1980, when it became part of Bernisse. In 2001, the town of Heenvliet had 2,675 inhabitants. Bernisse () is a village and former municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. Since 2015 it has been a part of the municipality of Nissewaard. The former municipality had a population of in , and covered an area of of which was water. The former municipality was named after the river Bernisse, which flows right through it from the Spui to the Brielse Meer and separates the estuary islands of Voorne and Putten. Sied van Riel () is a Dutch trance music DJ and producer originally from Rotterdam but currently residing in Spijkenisse. He came into the scene in the year of 2006 with the production of his first track, "Fearless" and the following year was signed to the known label Spinnin Records. He also has a one-hour weekly radio show called Rielism that airs on Afterhours.fm every Monday.
