Nielsen–Olesen Vortex
In theoretical physics, a Nielsen–Olesen vortex is a point-like object localized in two spatial dimensions or, equivalently, a classical solution of field theory with the same property. This particular solution occurs if the configuration space of scalar fields contains non-contractible circles. A circle surrounding the vortex at infinity may be "wrapped" once on the other circle in the configuration space. A configuration with this non-trivial topological property is called the Nielsen–Olesen vortex, after Holger Bech Nielsen and Poul Olesen (1973). The solution is formally identical to the solution of Quantum vortex in superconductor. See also * Nielsen–Olsen string * Abrikosov vortex *Montonen–Olive duality *S-duality In theoretical physics, S-duality (short for strong–weak duality, or Sen duality) is an equivalence of two physical theories, which may be either quantum field theories or string theories. S-duality is useful for doing calculations in theore ... ...

Features Robertson Bay extends between Cape Barrow in the west and Cape Adare in the east. Protection Cove in the south is the head of the bay. Cape Barrow is on Flat Island, east of Siren Bay and north of Cape Wood. Shipley Glacier divides and enters Robertson Bay to the west and to the south of the island, where it flows into Pressure Bay. Frank Newnes Glacier also flows into Pressure Bay, which is divided by Birthday Point from Berg Bay. Haffner Glacier empties into Berg Bay. The Sphinx Rock and Islands Point separate Berg Bay from Relay Bay. Reusch Glacier, Crume Glacier, Ommanney Glacier and Nielsen Glacier drain into Relay Bay, the last entering beside Calf Point to the west of Penelope Point and the Scott Keltie G ...

Nielsen Fixed-point Theorem
Nielsen theory is a branch of mathematical research with its origins in topological fixed-point theory. Its central ideas were developed by Danish mathematician Jakob Nielsen (mathematician), Jakob Nielsen, and bear his name. The theory developed in the study of the so-called ''minimal number'' of a map (mathematics), map ''f'' from a compact (topology), compact space to itself, denoted ''MF''[''f'']. This is defined as: :\mathit[f] = \min \, where ''~'' indicates homotopy of mappings, and #Fix(''g'') indicates the number of fixed points of ''g''. The minimal number was very difficult to compute in Nielsen's time, and remains so today. Jakob_Nielsen_(mathematician), Nielsen's approach is to group the fixed-point set into classes, which are judged "essential" or "nonessential" according to whether or not they can be "removed" by a homotopy. Jakob_Nielsen_(mathematician), Nielsen's original formulation is equivalent to the following: We define an equivalence relation on the set of fi ...

Nielsen (crater)
Nielsen is a lunar impact crater on the Oceanus Procellarum. It is located north-east of Montes Agricola on the western hemisphere of the Moon. To the east-southeast is the crater Wollaston. Nielsen is a bowl-shaped formation that lies astride a small ridge that runs north-northwestwards towards the Mons Rümker. The latter is an unusual raised formation of lunar domes. In 1973, the crater was named jointly after the Danish astronomer Axel Nielsen (1902-1970) and the Danish–American physicist Harald Herborg Nielsen (1903-1973), by the IAU The International Astronomical Union (IAU; , UAI) is an international non-governmental organization (INGO) with the objective of advancing astronomy in all aspects, including promoting astronomical research, outreach, education, and developmen ....
