Headquartered in Japan, the company has offices in South Korea, the United States, Taiwan, and Thailand. Nexon was founded in Seoul, South Korea, in 1994 by Kim Jung-ju. In 2005, the company moved its headquarters to Tokyo, Japan. However, its largest shareholder is an investment and holding company NXC, headquartered in Jeju Province, South Korea. ''MapleStory'' () is a free-to-play, 2D, side-scrolling massively multiplayer online role-playing game, developed by South Korean company Wizet. Several versions of the game are available for specific countries or regions, published by various companies (such as Nexon). Players travel the "Maple World", defeating monsters and developing their characters' skills and abilities as is typical in role-playing video games. Players can interact with others in many ways, including chatting and trading. Groups of players can band together in parties to hunt monsters and share rewards, and can also form guilds to interact more easily with each other. Players additionally have the option to visit the in-game "Cash Shop" to purchase a variety of character appearances or gameplay enhancements with real money. Kim Jung-ju
Kim Jung-ju (; 22 February 1968 – 28 February 2022), also known as Jay Kim, was a South Korean businessman, investor, and founder of Korea's largest gaming company, Nexon. He was the chairman and CEO of NXC Corporation, the holding company of Nexon, and a partner at Collaborative Fund, a New York-based venture capital firm. Kim died on 28 February 2022 at the age of 54, while travelling in Hawaii. At the time of his death, he was the third-wealthiest person in South Korea. Early life and education Kim was born in Seoul on 22 February 1968. He held a B.S. in Computer Science and Engineering from Seoul National University and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), where he taught as adjunct professor in 2011. ''Blue Archive'' is a 2021 real-time strategy role-playing game developed by the South Korean developer MX Studio under the management umbrella of Nexon Games (formerly NAT Games). The player and protagonist is a Sensei who was summoned from outside the academic city-state of Kivotos by the president of the General Student Council, an extrajudicial committee governing the culturally rich regional school districts. Following her sudden disappearance, criminal activity rises around Kivotos and the player is tasked by the remaining members of the council to resolve issues that crop up and help search for the president. ''QuizQuiz'' (), also known as ''Quiz Quiz'', was a massively multiplayer online (MMO) quiz video game created by Nexon which used a super deformed type anime graphical style to portray the players and the few environments or non-player characters (NPCs) it contained.
