Newcastle Jets FC, Newcastle Jets Football Club is an Australian professional association football club based in Newcastle (New South Wales), Newcastle, New South Wales. The club was formed in 2000 as Newcastle United, and played their first competitive match in October 2000, when they entered the First Round of the 2000–01 National Soccer League. The club was renamed Newcastle Jets in 2004. Since playing their first competitive match, over 200 players have made a competitive first-team appearance for the club, of whom 14 players have made at least 100 appearances (including substitute appearances). Newcastle Jets' record appearance-maker is Jason Hoffman, who has made a total of 214 appearances over a current 11-year playing career. Jason Hoffman
Jason Hoffman (born 28 January 1989) is an Australian association football player who currently plays for Newcastle Olympic FC. He is the most capped player in Newcastle Jets history. Club career Hoffman was developed through NSW Institute of Sport, NSWIS and Hamilton Olympic Warriors FC. He started as trainee at the Newcastle Jets FC, Newcastle Jets and became a part of the first team squad. On 2 September 2007 he made his A-League debut for the Jets as a substitute in Round 2 of the 2007–08 season, and scored his first goal for the club on Matchday 6 of the Asian Champions League against Ulsan Hyundai. Hoffman broke his 20 match goal drought in the A-League by scoring twice in the first half of the Jets 09/10 season opener against the Wellington Phoenix FC, Wellington Phoenix. Jobe Wheelhouse
Jobe Wheelhouse (born 14 April 1985 in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia) is an Australian football (soccer) player who plays for Lambton Jaffas. Club career Wheelhouse was unavailable for the majority of the 2006-07 A-League season and made his return against Perth Glory in Round 1 of the 2007–08 season. Since returning, the often unfairly maligned Wheelhouse has impressed for the Jets, one of the standouts in Newcastle's disastrous 2008–09 A-League campaign, where they plummeted from champions to wooden spooners in one season. Jobe scored one of the great A-League goals of all time in a Round 18 clash with Gold Coast United in season 2009–10. Paul Michael Okon (born 5 April 1972) is a former Australian soccer player who played as a defender or midfielder. He previously captained the Australia national team and has represented Australia Olympic Football Team at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. Okon's career began at Marconi Stallions in the old NSL in Australia. Nedjeljko Zelic (born 4 July 1971), commonly known as Ned Zelic, is an Australian former footballer who played as a centre-back or defensive midfielder. Club career Zelic started his career in the old Australian National Soccer League, where he played with clubs Sydney Croatia and Sydney Olympic. In his junior years he played for Croatia Deakin.
