New Milford is a Borough (New Jersey), borough in Bergen County, New Jersey, Bergen County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census, the borough's population was 16,923, an increase of 582 (+3.6%) from the 2010 United States census, 2010 census count of 16,341, which in turn reflected a decline of 59 (−0.4%) from the 16,400 counted in the 2000 United States census, 2000 census. New Milford was authorized to be incorporated as a borough on March 11, 1922, from what remained of Palisades Township, New Jersey, Palisades Township, subject to approval in a referendum (which took place on April 18, 1922). Milford is a borough that is located in Pike County, Pennsylvania, United States, and the county seat. Its population was 1,103 at the time of the 2020 census. Situated near the upper Delaware River, Milford is part of the New York metropolitan area. History The area along the Delaware River where the community of Milford is located had long been settled by the Lenape, an Algonquian-speaking indigenous tribe that lived in the mid-Atlantic coastal areas at the time of European colonization. Palisades Township was a township that existed in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The township was in existence from 1871 to 1922.
